I Don't Trust You... (JR) BOOK 1

Chapter 10

Zoe's POV:

      "I missed you guys so much." I whisper, my voice cracking as I hold back tears. Their grip around my waist tightens and I hear Faith sniffle into my shoulder.

"We missed you too...We thought you were dead!" She said, letting go and wiping her eyes. Jade let's go and nods her head.

"When we escaped, I thought Akuma got you and Kazu." Tears sting her eyes and she hugs me again, tighter this time. I pat her head.

   "No, he didn't get me. I don't know about him though." My voice becomes rough when I mention him. Faith gives me a look and sighs.

   "Are you still mad at what he did to you?" She asks. Jade let's go of me and looks me in the eye.

   "You know he only did it because Akuma told him to." She says. I make my face and voice as emotionless as I can.

   "I don't care if he did it to save us. He could've found a different solution." I can hear my voice shake a little at the end, but I take a deep breath.

    They both look at me, sadness in their eyes. Faith puts her hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry, Zoe."

   I close my eyes for a second. When I open them, I look at them and smile slightly. "It doesn't matter now. We're here and free, aren't we?"

   Faith smiles and pulls us back into a hug. "And we're together."

   "And not alone." Jade says, laughing a little.

     The moment ended up being interrupted by the bell ringing. I pull away first and look at them.

    "Looks like our little reunion is cut short. Wanna follow me?" I ask. They both nod and we all start walking down the hall, a few students walking past us.

   A thought crosses my mind and I look at my old friends. "Where were you guys staying when we escaped?" I ask.

   Faith shrugs. "Nowhere, really."

   "We were just sleeping in old ally's and stuff." Jade adds.

    I frown a bit. "Then, how did you guys end up in this school?"

   Jade points to Faith. "She thought she saw you with a very tall guy and she wanted to follow you."

    "Which reminds me, who was that guy?" Faith asks. I feel my cheeks get a little warm, but I hold back a blush and I keep my face emotionless as I look straight.

   "One of my foster parents."

    As soon as I say that, they both stop walking. I stop and look back at them, their eyes wide as they look at me. I raise an eyebrow.

   "What?"

   "Foster parents?" Faith asks. I nod my head.

   "How on earth did you get foster parents?" Jade asks, curiosity in her voice.

I shrug. "It just happened."

     "I thought you said you can't trust anybody?" Jade says. I look at her, then turn away.

    "I don't." I say and start to walk down the hall. They follow me.

   "Then, why are you with them?" Faith  asks.

   I shrug again. Why am I with them? I should've left the day after they took me in. I don't want to get attached to them, or else I'll end up getting hurt.
