The next day, I got to school and saw the building. I took a breath and walked in. Once I walked in, I was already in the hallway with lines of lockers and flyers everywhere. I looked to my right and I see double glass doors where it said 'Office' I walked in, where there was a women with wavy short red hair, with glasses.
I walked up to the counter, "Hi, I'm new."
"What's your name, honey?" She said in a sweet voice.
"Riley Mason."
She looked up on her computer and started typing my name in it, and wrote something on a posted note.
She stood up, "Here go, Riley and here is a teacher's slip that you will need to bring back after all your classes. I hope you have a nice first day." She said with a smile.
"Thank you and I will try to." I said as I waved the posted note to her and left the room.
When I walked out, there were bunch of students walking around to there lockers. My locker is 24. I started to search for it, when I was walking around, I saw bathrooms with glass on the doors and names of the gender on them. Then down the hallway and around the corner was wooden stairs with wooden rails, where people were sliding down on them. I'm guessing the class rooms are up there and some lockers. I finally found my locker it was close by the stairs. People kept running into me, like I was invisible and other people talking by there lockers and some making-out. It was a typical high school.
I did my combination and open my locker up, it was so plain inside compare to the other students lockers. I didn't really need to put anything in there, because I didn't have any of my books. So I close it and started looking around to find, Madison. I looked at the picture and looked up to see if she was anywhere near my locker, but I saw no sign of her. I picked up my backpack and try to find my class that she is in. Thinking maybe she might be over there, she could be one of those people who like being on time or one of those straight A's students or teacher pets. The first class is Math, which is my favorite subject, this will be a piece of cake.
The room number is 108, so I'm guessing it is up stairs. I started walking up the stairs, but it was kind of hard when people are walking up there too, it was kind of crowded. When I finally reached to another hallway, they had the same glass doors with the room numbers. I finally found room 108, and then the bell ringed for the students to get to class. I'm glad I went looking for the class. I walked into class and walked up to the teacher. The teacher had short black hair, with a little bit of grey in it, he had brown eyes and he looked to be 33, he was wearing a white and blue plaid shirt that was tuck in and he was wearing black pants.
The teacher looked at me, "Ahh... New student. I hope you like Math, because I'm not up for a class clown."
"No, sir. I actually love Math."
"Oh really, okay, then your accepted into my class." He said with a bright smile.
I gave him small smile and nodded my head. I handed him the slip and he signed it and handed it back to me, "I'm Mr. Edwards, welcome to my class."
"Thank you Mr. Edwards, I'm Riley Mason."
"It is a pleasure to have you in my class." He said with appraise. "You can sit anywhere you like."
I nodded and turned around to find a seat. I didn't see Madison, so I'm guessing she is not the person who is on time. I sat down at a seat in the middle of the class room. Students started to flutter in. I grabbed my notebook and pencil and set it down on my desk and when I looked up, I saw Madison, she was really pretty in person, I couldn't stop looking at her. She seemed to be in a hurry and then the bell ringed.
"Madison, you know I don't like tardiness." Mr. Edwards said in a stern voice.
"Sorry, Mr. Edwards." She said apolitically and hurry to a seat.
"Okay, now that we have everyone here." He said as he looked at Madison and she just gave him a little smile. "So, we will be doing polynomials. I'm going to write some up on the board and I will call on some people to do them."
Then everyone groan, "Yeah, Yeah, I know you guys hate it, but this is my class and my rules. I need to know if you guys are doing it right and how well you know them."
He started to write the problems on the board, and I looked around and some were texting, some were chatting with people. I looked at Madison and she was talking to some girls who were sitting by her and they were laughing. She looked so pretty when she was laughing with them. Wait, what am I doing, I can not fall for her, I just need to do this mission and get it over with and go on with my regular life. She stopped and started doing something on her piece of paper. I'm guessing the problems. I don't need to do them, I've already know this, I already passed this in my old school. I was already in Algebra two at my old school. This actually sucks that I have to do Algebra one again, I'm just glad that I love math.
Then Mr. Edwards dusted his hands off and he grabbed a role sheet.
"Okay, quiet now. I'm going to call some names. "James"
"Ugh," I heard him groan.
"Seth."
He walked up there like wearing his lettermen jacket. I'm guessing he is part of some sport at this school. Defiantly the popular crowd.
"Tia."
Which was one of the girls that Madison was talking to.
"And... Riley." Mr. Edwards said as he gave me a smirk.
I got up from my seat and did the problem quickly and sat down. Everyone was looking at me, including Madison and Mr. Edwards, they all had shocking expressions. They were surprise that I did it that quickly. I'm guessing there is not a math geek in this class, unless they are hiding.
Mr.. Edwards shook his head, "Okay." He said slowly, then he cleared his throat, "I'm guessing that is everyone." He looked at the board, "Well, James you were close, but you were missing the minus sign and Seth, you just got it wrong, because 'this suck' is not the answer to the problem."
Everyone laughed and Seth slapped a guys hand who was sitting behind him. What is up with jocks thinking that is so cool.
Mr. Edwards points to someone's problem, "Tia, you were almost there, but you forgot the signs too, but Riley you got everything right and how did you do that so quickly?" He said with a confusion on his face.
" Um...I don't know," I said shrugging my shoulders, "I just know it." I said in a nonchalant tone.
"Okay, well, least someone here knows this stuff."
Great, now I'm going to be know as the 'Geek' or 'Know It All' This is not what I wanted to be know as on my first day.
"Okay, now everyone open your books to page 159 and do some of these problems."
I opened my book and started them, they were so easy, I finished them in fifteen minutes. Then the bell ringed.
"The problems that you didn't finish are going to be your homework and due tomorrow." He yelled, because some of the students were leaving.
I started to get my backpack and I handed him the paper that I finish the problems.
He looked at me with a confusing expression, "You...finished them?" He said in a shocking tone.
I nodded my head, "Yep." I started to leave.
"Wait, Riley come over here."
I turned around and walked back to his desk.
"Your really good. You should be on my math telethon, we have an opening, if you would like to join?"
"Um...I will have to think about it, but thank you Mr. Edwards."
"No problem. I really would like it if you were on it, then maybe we could actually win."
I gave him a convincing smile and nodded, "Well, I better go or I will be late."
"Oh right. See you tomorrow." He said in a nonchalant tone.
"Bye." I said convincingly as I walked out of the room and headed to my second class, it is English.
