I was laying in my bed thinking about the mathtrialthlon, I really want to join it, but I'm afraid what others would think. Would it ruin me being popular or would anyone know about it? I doubt they would, maybe it will be alright. Maybe I can do both, I still have football, so that will help a lot. I'm going to join it, because I like it and I will still be popular, alright I got it settled now.
The next day, I went to my first class, math, I walked in, "Riley, come here." Mr. Edwards gestured me to come to him.
"Yes Sir?" I asked politely.
"Did you decide on joining the math triathlon? I really would appreciate if you did." He said pleasantly.
"Yes, I did and I would like to join the triathlon." I said with a smile.
Mr. Edwards clapped his hand happily and he had a bright smile on his face, "Great, we are meeting tomorrow at lunch, is that alright with you?"
"Yes, that's great."
"Great, take your seat, class is about to start."
"Alright sir." I said as I started going to a seat.
Then Madison walked in and she saw me, she had a smile on her face and she sat down by me.
"Hey." She said delightfully.
"Hey." I retorted back.
"So, how are you doing?" She said as she got her notebook out.
"Good, you?"
"The same. So, do you like math?"
"Yeah, I love math, do you?"
"I don't mind it, but I'm not good at it." She said with a chuckle.
Mr. Edwards clapped his hands to get our attention, "Okay class, I hope you did your homework, because I want you to pass them up to the front."
Madison leaned over and whispered, "Did you do the homework?"
"Yeah, I did it when we were class yesterday, so I already turned it in." I said with a little smile.
"Oh wow. I wished I had your luck." She said in a serious tone.
"Okay, I'm glad all of you did the homework." Mr. Edwards said while he was picking up the papers. "Okay, I'm going to put some problems on the board and I would like you guys to do them."
Then he started to write them on the board and I started to do the problems, then waited for Mr. Edwards to call on people to do the problems.
Then he started to call on people to do the problems, after everyone got done.
"Okay, tomorrow were going to review for the test, so I would like you guys to study, so then you guys would know what were going to review, then after tomorrow were having the test."
Then everyone signed, then the bell ringed.
I started to put my notebooks and pencils in my bag.
"Hey, your good with math..." Madison asked coyly.
I looked up at her, "Yeah, I guess so, why?"
She stood up and put her hands through her hair, I stood up also and put my bag over my shoulder and we started to walk out.
"Well, I was thinking maybe you can help me out with reviewing for the test?" She said softly, "If you want." She said quickly.
I gave her smile, "Sure, when do you want to study?"
"Um...Can you come over today? Because were reviewing tomorrow and the test is the next day."
"Yeah, that would be fine. Just give me your address and I can meet at your house after school."
"Sure." She said as she tore a piece of paper and got a pen out and wrote her address down, then she gave it to me. Then we started walking to our second period.
At lunch, I grabbed a trey and put a turkey sandwich, an apple, a jello and grabbed a Arizona ice tea. I went to pay for it and turned around, to see if there were seats available.
"Hey, come sit with us." Madison said in a cheerful voice.
I looked at her and gave her smile, "Okay."
I followed her out to the benches and there were two girls, looked preppy, wearing their cheerleadering outfits and three guys, wearing their lettermen's jacket. Madison sat down and I sat down next to her.
One of the jocks nodded his head at me, "Who is this?"
"Yeah?" Everyone said in unison.
Madison looked at me, "This is Riley, he is new here, so I thought it would be nice to accept him in our group." She said in a sweet voice.
I nodded at them, "Hey." I said in nonchalant tone.
"Isn't he the one who is the math geek?" The same jock said, he started laughing and him and his friend high fived each other.
"Seth!" Madison said as she gave him a warning look.
"What?" He said like he was innocent and he hopped down off the bench and sat next to Madison and put his arm around her, "You know you like it, Madison."
She looked at him, "What, you being a jerk? Oh yeah, because I really like jerks." She said in a fake flirty tone.
"I can tell, by you flirty with me." He said in a charming tone and lightly touched her nose.
She gave him unconvincing look and pulled his arm off her.
Seth leaned over, "So, I heard you joined the football team, that you are our new quarterback."
Madison turned her head quickly, "Is that true, Riley?" She said in astonishing tone.
"Um...yeah its true. I was a quarterback at my old school."
"Really? Why don't you go back there again?" Seth said as he got up and grabbed his backpack and left.
I looked at Madison, trying to give her a believable smile and she did too, then the bell ringed and we headed off to our next class.
