Topic: Brunei's Philosophy
Before I start the lesson, let me explain what is philosophy for those who doesn't understand the word...
Philosophy is...
- the study of ideas and beliefs about the meaning of life.
- a set of beliefs that tries to explain the meaning of life or give rules about how to behave.
Get it? Let's start the lesson, yo!
Brunei Darussalam is beautifully modern yet deeply rooted in the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy and hopes to shine brighter in the decades to come.
The Melayu Islam Baraja (MIB) or Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy officially adopted on January 1, 1984 when the country acquired independence and sovereign status, depicts the peaceful nature and way of life in Brunei.
The three pillars upheld by MIB namely the Malay culture, the Islamic religion and the institution of an absolute monarchy, are traditional and have been incorporated into the processes of modernisation and development of the nation.
As the ideology is all-encompassing, law has not only been one of the vehicles for its implementation but shaped in accordance with the tenets of MIB, which can be seen in legislation, legal institutions and processes for dispute resolution with the promotion of a more distinctive Malay character as well as a discernable Islamic agenda.
Along with a harmonious blend of the Malay language, culture and customs, the MIB philosophy also includes the teachings of Islamic laws and values, as well as the monarchy system which must be upheld and practised by all.
The MIB philosophy is also incorporated into the school educational curriculum, and numerous seminars have been conducted by government agencies that focused on MIB as the way of life for all Bruneians.
