Aaron's POV

"Awww but Aaron, I wanted you to come over to my house. My parents won't mind if it's you who comes over to our place" Chloe told me while revealing some cleavage. Honestly I could never go for such a disgusting girl like her. "I'm sorry Chloe but I promised Alexis that I would try to come to his birthday party. He pseems really lonely and that's not fair." I told her. To be honest that thought sends a shiver down my spine. I know first hand what it's like to have no one by my side.

"I can't believe you're going to that little freaks house. There's something clearly wrong with him! I heard his parents died years ago from those walkers. Our homeroom teacher is always feeding him."

" I mean if I were his mother I wouldn't want to be alive knowing my son was a complete abomination. How the hell did that kid even survive so far!?" Chloe started going on and on about him.

"Yeah it's so creepy how he always has that stupid bear. It's all torn up with dried blood. Hep C much?" One of the friends pipped up."Wow thats scary to think about. A psycho boy walking around school popping pills and talks to his imaginary friends! What if he tries to let those walkers into our safe haven? " Chloe said before she started laughing with her other friends.

I couldn't stand to listen to them any longer. I don't care what everyone thinks of him. I find him to be someone who I can find hope through. He reminds me of me when I was lonely and not popular. With anger I shot up and deciding to do what was best.

I left them all behind while ignoring everyone telling me to come back. He probably doesn't need people like my friends to hurt him even more then he already is. He just needs a real friend to help him learn how to make more friends. I'm not gonna let anyone hurt him because I felt a relatable connection with him.

Reaching into my back pocket I pulled out the slip of paper he gave me earlier. It was about 4:15 and so I thought why not just drop by. Even if I can't stay too long it's the thought that counts right?

While walking outside the clouds were out. It looks like it might rain today... I walked over to my Red Dodge Charger. I took out the keys and unlocked the car. Throwing my book bag onto the back seat, I got it and started the car. I wonder what could I get for Alexis? Oh I know it! I could get him that cool bracelet I saw at the mall.

Later at Alexis' house

Looking down at the paper I checked to make sure I was at the right address. I was in shock and a little bit of disbelief if it's state. Some of the buildings here were obviously damaged but this was a another story.

The building looked pretty worn down and shabby. Almost like those houses you see at the edge of town that only druggies and crackheads live in. I parked the car and approached the front door.

The house was near the edge of the safe haven which was kind of dangerous. The sounds of growling and thumping were echoing in my head. I took a deep breath while clutching the present I had in my hand. Why was I so nervous about all this?

I knocked on the door and waited a minute. The door swung open and I saw bright blonde hair pierce through the dark house. He had a party hat on and had second one in his hand.

"I'm so glad you could make it! Would you like to wear a party hat too? It's okay if you don't want one." He said while handing me the hat.

I figured why not go with it and put it on. After I followed him into his house. "Well my parents spent all day decorating the house. They put lots of streamers and decorations everywhere." Alexis happily said while leading me to the kitchen.

When I walked into the house I almost vomited from the smell.  There weren't any decorations... The house was dusty and dirty beyond belief. There were spider webs everywhere and rotting wood. I could've swore that there were roaches. How did this kid live in this house ?

"Mommy, daddy! This is mi amigo, Aaron." He said while entering the kitchen. There was just a table, old looking stove , refrigerator and cabinets. And then on the table was a "cake". It almost broke my heart to see how he was even able to keep up this whole charade.

I decided to play along with his delusions for his sake. But after all this we need to get some kind of help for him. "It's so nice to meet you both. I'm humble to be in your lovely home." I told "them" with a smile.

"Mom! Don't say that, he's just a friend..." Alexis spoke to the empty space as if someone was actually there. "Oh I'm sorry would you like something to drink ? We have some fresh squeezed juice in the fridge if you would like some. " I was asked and so I said I was. He then went to the refrigerator and took out a old looking pitcher.

The inside of the refrigerator was brown and dirty. There was mold in there and it made me question what he would eat. He poured me a cup of whatever in gods name was in the pitcher. I hesitantly took the cup and pretended to drink it. In reality I did the whole, "toss it past my mouth to make it look like I drank it."

I felt the vile in my throat build up but I forced myself to swallow it down. Alexis continued to go on about his day. While looking around I could've swore there was like a war between the rats and cockroaches. I was kinda rooting for the roaches to win.

I needed to do something to distract myself from all of this. "Oh hey Alexis, I got you this. Happy Birthday." I told him handing him a bag with tissue paper sticking out. His eyes sparkled with light and hope which warmed my broken heart for him.

"Thanks so much for the present !" He happily took it from me and opened it up. The tissue paper went fling in the air as he excitedly looked for his present. "Oh that's so cool. Look how pretty this is." He opened the small box to see the bracelet I got for him.

It was just a platinum bracelet that I thought was nice. He put it on himself and adored it. Almost like it was the first present he ever received in his whole life. He then gave me a hug as thank you in which I gladly accepted.

"I know right! He's the most coolest friend I could ever ask for." He said to his parents. I swear it made my heart smile knowing I made him so happy. Honestly I saw quite bit of my younger brother in him. He was so innocent and too kind to be corrupted by this literal rotting world...

"It's time for cake everyone ! " Alexis exclaimed and waited for his parents to be quite. Moving the cake into the center of the table he grabbed a few plates after. "We" then sang him happy birthday to him. After he cut the cake up and gave "everyone" a slice to enjoy.

He then started to serve himself but then stopped suddenly dropping it."O...oh no.. They are seeping through again.. S...stop talking ! Stop trying to lie to me! My parents are still alive and I have friends!" Alexis started to freak out and cry.

"You're all lying! Aaron does care about me and he won't leave me behind like everyone else does." I looked around but only saw a pill bottle on the ground. Alexis was getting worse and started throwing stuff everywhere in a meltdown.

It was almost like he was possessed by a monster who was trying to regain control. The plates were thrown onto the ground and they all shattered. He then accidentally threw his birthday cake to the wall.

I remembered from earlier about what my friends said. Out of pure instinct I grabbed the pill bottle and some water in a cup. I grappled Alexis during his mental breakdown to make things easier. Luckily, he was smaller than me so it was easy to hold him down.

I forced his mouth open to take the pill and then forcer him to drink the water. After a few minutes of him scratching me and fighting back. He finally calmed down then fell asleep. Geez, thank god he didn't bite my fingers off...

I stroked his hair softly holding him close to me. This is not a life for someone. Something tells me that I need to interve-. That scent... No. But he's gone. Why do you smell just like him...
