Chapter 1

Rory and Jess stand at the beach kissing. Finally their feelings are out in the open.

Rory pulls away. "I think we better head back."

"Yeah, we should." Jess proceeds to kiss her again, neither in any hurry to go home.

They stay on the beach, with their arms around each other, watching the waves, for an undefined amount of time.

"Hey, lovebirds! Are y'all gonna come back in? It's freezing out here."

Rory and Jess laughs at the sound of Lorelai's voice. "Yeah, we better get back. It's really cold."

Jess grabs Rory's hand and walks to the house. It's such a comforting feeling having Rory's hand in Jess's. As good as it feels, Rory knows they have just barely scratched the surface of this new relationship.

Rory still has Logan. She will always have him. She has Bean to take care of. Jess works in Philadelphia.

So many logistics to work out. But Rory chooses to live in the moment. Be happy in this moment.

"Finally, you grace us with your presence." Lorelai quips from behind the counter.

"Sorry. We just wanted to talk alone." Rory apologizes.

"It's ok." Lorelai watches as Jess heads upstairs to change clothes for breakfast. "So what did you guys talk about?" Lorelai whispers as Jess goes out of earshot.

"I will talk to you about it later."

After breakfast, the Dane/Gilmore/Mariano clan head back to Stars Hollow. Emily hugs Rory. "You take care of that baby and yourself, Rory. Call me if you need anything. I will be there."

"Thank you, grandma."

Emily surprises everyone when she pulls Jess into a hug. "You take care of my grandchild, ok? Make sure she's happy."

"Yes, Mrs. Gilmore."

Rory and Jess follow Luke and Lorelai out of the driveway and head home.

Jess and Rory don't want to leave each other's side. But when he drops her off at her house, he heads to the diner to clean up.

Rory is in her bedroom putting her things away when her mom knocks on the door and enters.

"So? What happened with you and Jess? You two looked very cozy coming back to the house."

"We talked."

"Uh huh. You have to give me something more than that."

"Mom. It's- it's..." Rory is at a loss for words.

"So it was that good huh?" Lorelai teases.

Rory's cheeks turn a bright shade of red as she turns and unpacks more of her things.

"Hello."

"Hey, Jess."

It's later in the evening. Rory is in her bedroom alone. Lorelai and Luke are already upstairs asleep. She is sitting on her bed cross legged when she calls Jess.

"Hey," Jess says more enthusiastically.

"You weren't asleep, were you?" Rory asks concerned.

"No, I'm currently reading."

"What are you reading?"

"My Christmas gift, actually."

"Oh," Rory couldn't help but be worried. "What are your thoughts on it so far?"

There is a pause. "It feels weird reading about myself from someone else's perspective."

"I tried to be honest. I don't think I wrote anything disparaging."

"No, you didn't. I guess I just wasn't aware of how much I hurt you." Rory can sense regret in his voice.

"Hey. I love you. Don't forget that. I loved you, then. I love you now. I don't have any regrets."

"I love you, too Rory. My only regret is that I hurt you." Jess apologizes once more.

Both Rory and Jess sit in silence, neither wanting to hang up, but neither knowing what to say.

"What are your plans for tomorrow?" Jess asks.

"I am planning to go furniture shopping. I have to fill out my apartment. I can't just have my rocking chair there." Rory jokes.

"Want me to join you?" Jess asks.

"Yes, please. I would love to have you go with me."

Rory imagines Jess and her going furniture shopping. "I am surprised you are volunteering to go shopping."

"I am volunteering to spend more time with you." Jess corrects her.

"Ok. Well then, I'll see you at the diner. I want my daily 12 ounce cup of coffee."

Rory and Jess laugh. The comfort in their conversation is apparent to both of them.

"I better call it a night. Second trimester is making me really sleepy. Good night, Jess."

"Good night, Rory."
