When Rory got in her apartment, she found Jess in the living room watching basketball. When Jess hears Rory enter, he turns to see tears in her eyes. He gets up, hugs her and leads her to the couch.

"It was horrible, Jess. The whole night was horrible. Mitchum was just horrible. He pretty much called me a gold digger whore. Accused me of sleeping around. He wants a paternity test and me to sign papers that I won't ask for any money from his family."

"What did Logan do?" Jess asks enraged.

"Nothing. It sounded like he had this conversation with his dad about the paternity test and stuff. He just didn't expect his dad to bring it up tonight." Rory tries to defend Logan.

"But he didn't stop his dad?"

"I didn't let him. Jess, I slapped Mitchum." Rory was shocked by her own actions.

As Jess holds Rory, he couldn't help but be proud of Rory at that moment. "Mitchum is a jerk. He shouldn't have said those things about you."

Rory pulls away and wipes her tears. "But he's right. About all of it. I did sleep with an engaged man while I had a boyfriend. I am barely getting over minimum wage. I don't have a steady career. If I was Mitchum, I wouldn't trust me either."

"No, Rory. He's wrong. About all of it. Yes, you made some mistakes. We all have. But you didn't make Logan do anything he didn't want to do. I have known you a lot longer than Logan and Mitchum. You don't do handouts. You work hard for what you have. It's something you learned from your mom."

Rory wipes the tears from from her eyes. "I just can't deal with this anymore. I told Logan he can still visit the baby. But none of his family can ever know him. I am going to protect the baby from them."

Jess looks into the eyes of Rory and says, "no you won't protect the baby. We both will." Jess kisses Rory's forehead.

Later that night while Rory sleeps, Jess pulls out his cellphone and dials a number he never called before.

"Hello."

"Logan, it's Jess. We need to talk in person."

Logan anticipated this phone call. "Yeah. I think we should. I'm free tomorrow around noon."

"Sounds good to me. Text me the address where you're staying." Jess hangs up the phone and goes back to bed.

Jess drives to Logan's hotel in Hartford. He hates lying to Rory but he didn't want her to worry about Logan and Jess fighting. All he told her was he was running errands and will be back later in the afternoon.

When Jess pulls up to Logan's hotel, he had to calm himself down before heading to the suite. Jess knocks on Logan's door and is let in.

"Jess."

"Logan."

"What would you like to drink, Jess? Scotch, beer?" Logan asks.

"Water is fine." Jess sits on the couch.

When Logan joins him, the tension in the room is thick. Both men know that this is a conversation that needed to happen. Just neither knew how to start. They both love the same woman and will always be in each other's lives.

"So, Jess, I assume you know what happened last night," Logan starts.

"Rory told me." Jess is holding his hands together.

Logan sips his scotch. "Jess, I want to reassure you I didn't know that's what he was going to say."

"But you didn't stop him, did you?"

"No, I should have stopped him. You're right. It's just-" Logan continues.

"Did you ever doubt you were the father?" Jess asked.

"No. I knew. Rory wouldn't have flown to England if she had doubts that I was the father."

Jess nods his head. "Be that kid's father, Logan. That's all I really came to say. You are that kid's father. Be his dad."

"I will. Jess, thank you for taking care of her when I can't."

"She still loves you."

"I know. But she chose you. I won't be in your way." Logan and Jess get up. Logan extends his hand to Jess. Jess takes it. "Take care of her."

"I will." Jess then leaves and heads back to Stars Hollow.

*****

When Jess arrives at Rory's apartment, he finds her on the laptop.

"Hey Rory, what are you doing?"

"Checking emails. I'm hoping to hear word from any of the other publications. Tuesday I have a phone interview with Philadelphia Magazine and Thursday I also have a phone interview with Philadelphia Media Network. Hopefully something comes up with these interviews. Even if it's something as small as writing about events taking place around the city, I will take it."

"Rory, can I talk to you for a minute?" Jess asks.

Rory closes her laptop and says "sure, what's up?"

Jess takes a seat across from Rory "I was going to keep it from you. But I think you deserve to know. I went to see Logan."

"Why?"

"Because we're both in love with the same woman. You're carrying his child. We needed to come to an understanding."

"Well did you?"

"Yeah. I think so."

Rory sits on Jess's lap. "Thank you for loving me and taking care of me, Jess."

"Always." Jess kisses Rory deeply.
