The day Rory has been dreading since she told Logan she was pregnant is here. She has been avoiding Mitchum and Shira's phone calls. But today she has dinner with Mitchum and Logan.
"Rory, I can go with you if you like. I never liked this man since he told you don't have the making of a journalist." Jess offers.
"Logan will be there with me. I will be fine." As Rory puts on a pair of earrings, she looks at Jess seriously. "Do you think he may have had a point? I mean look at me, Jess. I'm a small town newspaper editor whose lauded work is about sewer systems."
"Rory, he was wrong about you. And what's worse is you're wrong about you. Your first job out of college was following the campaign trail of a future president. You have had successful articles for the New York Times and Hartford Courant. You're still a contender."
Rory sighs. "I just hope this dinner isn't going to be drama."
There is a knock at the door. Jess goes to answer it. It's Logan.
The first and only time Logan and Jess met, they didn't like each other. Logan was being a douche and Jess was mad that Rory quit Yale. But today they see each other for the first time in over a decade.
"Hi," Logan extends his hand out to Jess.
Jess takes a minute to look at the hand, then shakes it. "Hi. Come in. Rory is just about to get ready."
"Thank you."
As Jess and Logan wait for Rory to exit her bedroom, there's an awkward silence between them. "Look, Logan. I'm not one for small talk ok? She's nervous about meeting up with your dad. I offered to go with her. She said no. I know you love her. So I am trusting you make sure nothing goes wrong tonight and that she's going to be ok."
Logan looks at Jess, and nods his head. "I love her too, Jess. And I won't let anything happen to her or my son."
Jess grunts his approval.
Rory comes back from the bedroom all dressed ready to go. "Hey, Logan. Thanks for picking me up."
"You're welcome. I'll be downstairs in the car." Logan leaves discreetly.
When Logan leaves, Jess pulls Rory to an embrace. "Hey, I love you. Ok? Call me if you need me." Jess kisses her sweetly.
"I will." Rory then leaves the apartment and meets up with Logan.

They have a 6:00 reservation at an Italian restaurant called Salute. It's a small beautiful, five star restaurant in Hartford. Mitchum is waiting for them in a private room he has reserved there.
"Hi, dad," Logan pulls out one of the chairs for Rory.
"Logan. Rory, you look beautiful as ever. Please sit."
"Thank you."
Waitress comes to get everyone's drink orders. When she leaves, they start small talk.
Later that evening, halfway through the entree course, Rory can tell Mitchum is going to start about what he really invited Rory for.
"So, Miss Gilmore. You're pregnant."
"Yes. About 20 weeks."
"Now my son believes he's the father."
"Dad, we have already discussed this."Logan interrupts sounding angry.
"Yes, you and I have discussed this. But I want to talk to Rory."
Rory looks at Logan for answers. Logan just refuses to take his eyes from his father. "Yes, he is."
"Now you had a boyfriend here in Stars Hollow. How can you be sure?"
"I am 100% sure."
"Then you wouldn't be against a paternity test."
"Wait, what? I know who is the father. It's your son. No one else. I know who I slept with."
"Yes, yes. So you say. But you see, Logan comes from a family of old money. We have made a family dynasty. I know of your financial troubles. Working in a small town newspaper, barely over minimum wage. For all I know, you might be just saying Logan is the father because you want his money."
"Excuse me!?! Who do you think I am?" Rory is getting enraged.
"I'll tell you. You're a woman who has been having an affair with an engaged man. Who had a boyfriend for two years but kept sleeping with my son the whole time. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to ask for a paternity test to prove that baby is a Huntzberger."
"Fine you want a paternity test, I will take one." Rory is turning bright red with anger.
"If that baby is his, I need you to sign a paper." Mitchum says.
"Dad, no. That's not happening."
"Logan be quiet! I need to protect this family from this woman. I need to make sure our money is safe."
"I don't want your money, Mitchum. I don't want anything from you." Rory stands up ready to leave.
"You already got some of my money. Every cent Logan spends on that baby is my money. And he can do that. All I want is you to sign a paper saying you're not going to go after the rest of us. That if your son is Logan's, you won't try to go after the rest of our money."
"So you think I'm a gold digging whore?"
"If the shoe fits."
Rory slaps Mitchum with all her might and walks out of the restaurant.

"So you knew that's what he was gonna talk to me about?"
Rory and Logan are back in the car driving to Stars Hollow.
"No I swear I didn't know. If I knew, do you think I would have let you meet with him?" Logan is even more enraged with his father.
"You were in the restaurant saying 'dad we have already discussed this' like you knew what he was going to say."
"We had discussed it. But I thought I shut it down. I didn't know he was going to bring it up again tonight. If I did, I wouldn't have brought you here."
"You know what Logan. Tell your father, he can have his damn paternity test. I don't want your family's money. If he wants that on paper, I will sign it too. But your family, not a single person other than you, are allowed to ever meet my son."
Logan pulls up to Rory's apartment. She gets out of the car, slams the door shut and walks away, not looking back.
