Six hours later, Rory and Jess reach their final destination. A townhouse in Philadelphia.
"Is this where you live?" Rory asks.
"Yup. It's what I call home."
Jess leads Rory up the steps onto his small porch. "I like it."
"You haven't even seen the inside."
K
"I imagine floor to ceiling books, very cool sound system, and modern furniture."Jess laughs. "Just go inside and see for yourself." Jess opens the door to let Rory in.
"Wow." Rory enters the home impressed.
Jess's home suits him. It's a bit eccentric with a touch of modern. The living room walls are lined with bookshelves. The kitchen is small which leads to the dining room. The walls are filled with photographs and paintings.
"Are these your paintings?"
Jess laughs. "I can't draw anything beyond a stick figure. The paintings are done by several artists that have showcased their work at Truncheon Books. But the photographs were taken by me."
"You have photographing skills. Quite an eye to light and color," Rory looks closer at one of his photos.
"It sounds like you know your way around photos."
"Not so much. Just a background at picking pictures for a newspaper. I mean, you are talking to the former editor of Yale Daily News." Rory teases.
"How could I forget? I'll go get our bags and then I can show you upstairs." Jess heads back outside leaving Rory alone in the living room.
Rory's nervous energy comes back in full force.
Rory's mind was going on hyperdrive. "Upstairs is his bedroom. He probably expects me to share his bed. Well of course he does. This is an overnight date. What did you expect Rory. Innocent kiss and nothing to happen. And then it's New Year's Eve. He probably wants to create his own fireworks."
"Hey, Rory, you want to follow me upstairs?" Jess comes back with two bags in his hands.
"Sure." Rory follows Jess upstairs.
"Ok, so this place is pretty small. This is my bedroom. Across the hall here is the bathroom and here is an extra bedroom for guests. I can put your stuff in here if you like."
Rory nods her head. "Thank you, Jess."
Jess drops her bag and is ready to leave her room when Rory stops him. "Jess I love you. And I want to thank you for not pressuring me into anything. Like giving me an option."
"Rory, I don't ever want to pressure you again. I have made that mistake before and I have since regretted it. I will only go as fast or as slow as you want ok? I mean it." Jess pulls Rory into a hug and kiss. "Now I know you're going to need to use the bathroom to freshen up. I will be downstairs if you need me."
Rory nods her head and says "thank you."
Rory heads to the bathroom to wash her face, brush her hair and change clothes. She isn't sure what Jess planned but she thought a change of clothes would be a good idea.
Rory heads downstairs to join Jess when she's greeted with a surprising smell. She heads to the kitchen to see Jess slaving away at the stove. "I didn't know you can cook."
"Luke is not the only one in the family who knows his way around a stovetop." Jess kisses Rory on the cheek.
Rory stands behind Jess with her arms around his waist. "What are you cooking?"
"Nothing fancy. Fried chicken with wild rice and corn. Does that sound good?"
"Bean and I approve." Rory kisses Jess on the cheek.
"So I was thinking, it's New Year's Eve. It will be really crowded out soon. Now we can brave the crowds and watch fireworks or order pizza and watch the fireworks here on tv."
"I choose the second option."
Rory walks over to the book shelf to see Jess's collection. "I see you have given Ayn Rand a try."
"I still can't understand her much."
"You mean ten books later, you still can't understand her much?" Rory asks in disbelief.
Jess shrugs. "Well, what is much?" It solicits a laugh from Rory.
Jess's choice of books vary from the classics like Anna Karenina to more recently released books like the Mockingjay trilogy.
Rory's cellphone rings, caller ID says it's Logan. "Jess, I'll be outside. Ok?"
"Hey, Logan."
"Hey, Ace." Rory can barely hear Logan above the cacophony.
"Sorry, Ace. Guys, calm down. I'm on the phone with Ace."
"Hey Rory!!!"
"Sorry, Ace. I'm out with Robert, Colin and Finn. We are at my bachelor party."
"You're not jumping off any cliffs are you?" Rory asked.
"No, we're just at the bar. Don't worry about us. Happy New Years Ace."
"Thanks. You too Logan. Don't get too crazy."
"Don't worry, Ace. The guys got my back."
"And that's why I worry." Rory laughs.
"So how are you and the baby? Almost at 17 weeks, right?" Logan asks.
"Yup. I am showing finally. I feel fat. My feet are swelling. This baby means everything to me. But ugh." Rory complains.
"I'm sure you still look beautiful. Well I better go, Ace. In omnia paratus!"
Rory giggles. "Talk to you next year."
"Yeah, 2017 baby!"
Rory laughs as she hangs up and goes back into the house.
Looks like Jess has finished cooking and has two plates on the table.
"Hey, who was that?" Jess asked.
"It was Logan. He just wanted to wish me Happy New Years."
"You know you don't have to leave the room when he calls. I know he will always be a part of your life." Jess says.
"I wasn't sure. I just feel more comfortable when I step away to talk to him."
"Rory, when I told you I love you and that I'm all in, I meant it. That means I know Logan will forever be in your life and by extension, my life as well. You don't have to hide anything from me." Jess reassures her.
"Thank you, Jess."

Author's note
The cover photo for this chapter is really a photo Milo took. He posted it awhile ago, I just imagine this is one of the photos Jess could have hanging in his home.
