Jess and Rory have plans to spend the week of Valentine's Day in Philadelphia. Rory secured two more job interviews and is waiting for word from them.
That Monday, Laura, Matt's wife, invited Rory to lunch. It was a beautiful day in Philly so they had a picnic at LOVE park.
"I really am falling in love with this city. It's so different than Stars Hollow." Rory said.
"You've never been here before?" Laura asked.
"I have, twice. Once when Truncheon Books had an open house and once when President Obama came here during his campaign trail. Both times, only for a day. I didn't really get to see the city."
"I have lived in Philadelphia for 5 years. I have traveled through most of the east coast. Philly has its own unique flavor."
Before settling down in Philadelphia, Laura was medical equipment sales representative. She traveled all throughout the east coast selling new equipment to hospitals. Now, she has switched careers to medical transcription.
"Have you applied to Truncheon Books for a job?" Laura asks.
Rory has given this some thought. "I am apprehensive about working under Jess. I mean I love the man. But I don't think it would be a good idea. I would prefer keeping my private and professional lives separate. I mean if I can't find a job, I will look into it."
"That's understandable. I just thought it would be a good idea. So what are you guys going to do tomorrow?" Laura asks.
"I have no clue." Rory laughs. "Jess has the day off and he plans on surprising me."
"Duh dum duh duh," Laura starts humming the wedding march.
Rory laughs, "Stop it, you know that's not happening."

Later that afternoon, Rory is reading Proust when she receives a phone call from an unknown phone number.
"Hello," she answers.
"Hello, may I speak to Lorelai Gilmore, please?" A woman on the line replies.
"This is she."
"Hello, Ms. Gilmore. This is Alexandra Nordiff from the Philadelphia Magazine."
"Hello, Mrs. Nordiff."
"We were very impressed with your resume and your portfolio. The magazine would like to discuss with you possibly working with us in the magazine."
"Are you serious?" Rory couldn't hide her excitement with the news.
"Yes, we are. We were very impressed with your work in the Obama campaign and your work with the women's march in Stamford. Now please understand, this will be just articles on our website for now. And the job offer is small. We would like you to just report on special events happening around the city and suburban areas. It's where we would like you to start." Mrs. Nordiff explains.
"That's fine. Thank you so much."
"Now if you could come by next week, we will discuss more in depth, your employment. Like salary, benefits and starting date. How would Monday, the 20th at 2:00 sound?"
"It sounds good. Thank you."
"See you then on Monday." She hangs up the phone. Rory couldn't help but squeal with excitement.

When Jess came home from work, he finds Rory in the living room on her laptop. "Hey, Rory."
"Jess," Rory grabs Jess and pulls him in a tight hug. "I have some good news."
"I like good news." Jess smiles.
"I got a job offer from Philadelphia magazine. It's an internet news magazine. I will be meeting with the editor next week to hash out the details but I am excited."
"That's great news, Rory. That magazine is pretty well respected in this city." Jess says.
"Yeah, right now, I will just be writing about the events around the city, like concerts or plays and stuff. It's not international news correspondent. But it's a start."
"I am really happy for you. So this is really happening, huh? You, me and the baby."
"What do you think about it? Are you ready for two more people in your house?" Rory puts her arms around Jess's neck.
"I can't wait." Jess kisses Rory deeply.
Later that night, Jess and Rory are eating pizza for dinner. "Rory, are you ready for tomorrow?"
"How can I be? You haven't said anything."
"Just pack for a couple of nights. That's all I am going to say."
"Jess, you gotta give me more than that." Rory complains.
"Ok, it's going to be cold." Jess smirks.
