"The Italians call them Strega. The Yoruba of West Africa call them aje, meaning mother. Where my mother was from, they called them hexa, and here we call them witch." Elijah explained to Hayley as I rested my legs on the couch. Elijah stared down at the group of pictures that together made a picture of Celeste, a witch Elijah once loved. "Over the centuries, vampires have fought them and fought beside them, bedded them and burned them. Whether adversary or ally, they have been a force to be reckoned with. Their ancestral magic anchors this city. There's never been one all-powerful witch... until Davina."

"Who is now tucked in safe and sound down the hall under my protection." Klaus said as he strolled into the room as if he had not a care in the world.

"Why must you use that phrase. 'My protection'." I mimicked him. "No wonder vampires have been portrayed so creepy throughout the centuries.

"Your Celeste was quite beautiful and a portent of evil according to our volatile artist in residence." Klaus said choosing to ignore me.

"Yes. Perhaps Davina's mistaken what she calls evil for power. Celeste was certainly very powerful in her day, but she's been dead for over 200 years. I don't understand. Why all these sketches now?" Despite Elijah's calm and logical tone I knew that at this moment he was being anything but. A witch coming back after 200 years isn't even close to the most bizarre thing that's happened to us. The truth was that Elijah refused to believe that his once betrothed would come back after 200 years evil.

All of a sudden a loud crash was heard from upstairs as Davina yelled at Marcel. "Well, that's going well." Klaus spoke his voice dripping with sarcasm.

"If you were trying to win the girl's trust, perhaps poisoning her one true love was not the most splendid idea." Elijah responded.

"She loved him?" I asked no-one in particular as the pit of my stomach twisted a bit. My brothers didn't even acknowledge me but I saw Hayley raise an eyebrow.

"Oh. Are there any more inopportune deaths you'd like to wave in my face?" Klaus asked Elijah angrily.

"Give me a month. I'll get you a list." Elijah snapped back. They were like bickering children.

Another crash from upstairs interrupted their argument, "Young, old, dead, or alive, witches are a pain in the ass." Klaus grumbled before turning around and storming up the stairs. I quickly followed to make sure he didn't do anything stupid.

"What's with all the racket?" He asked angrily as he walked in but stopped in his place when he saw Davina. She was leaning over the bed throwing up dirt.I quickly went to her and held her hair back as her body shook profusely. And then, the ground began to shake, the entire quarter in fact. As Marcel and Klaus tried to find there footing I shielded Davina from the debris falling around us. Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.
