Garry and I agreed to go through the grey door that stood near us. It seemed like the best decision.
Garry took a deep breath and pulled the door open as he stepped inside. I followed closely behind him and the door slammed shut. Thankfully, there were lights... in... the... room?
Well, I wouldn't exactly call it a room. There seemed to be narrow, grey hallways leading all around the room...
Garry read the plaque in front of us, "Labyrinth." He sighed tiredly. "I guess this is a maze then..."I suddenly whipped around when I heard the shuffling of feet. Garry gasped and the two of us turned to see three, headless statues wearing red dresses coming right for us!!!
Without a second of hesitation, Garry grabbed my hand and began sprinting hurriedly in the opposite direction. I turned my head to see that they were following closely behind...
After a few minutes of running, we stopped to take a breath and saw that we'd lost the statues in the maze. For now at least...
As I was hunched over, gaining my breath, I noticed a splatter of red paint on the ground...
I tugged on the back of Garry's coat and pointed it out to him. He paled slightly and said we should continue onwards.
We walked a bit more, until we found another plaque reading, "Do you like mazes?"
Garry suddenly punched the wall. "Not in this case, no!" He yelled out. "Ugh, it seems like this gallery is just toying with us..."
I couldn't help but agree with him. It seemed like the gallery just enjoyed watching the suffering of others. I shivered thinking about the fact that the gallery itself was a living being. Was that even possible?
Garry ran his fingers through his hair and sighed with frustration. "Let's go, Ib... We shouldn't stay in here too long..."
I nodded and we walked further. Multiple times, we encountered dead ends and had to retrace our steps, but thankfully we didn't see anymore of the headless statues.
Soon, Garry and I entered this one hallway with a big plaque. Garry read it aloud, "There's a trick to solving mazes... Hug the right hand side and you'll reach the end eventually."
"Does that work?" I asked Garry with interest.
"Not a bad trick..." He stated while rubbing his chin in thought. "But that doesn't help the ceiling being far too low for comfort. Not to mention those weird things loitering around... gives me the creeps. Be careful not to get trapped between them, okay, Ib?"
I nodded my head as he looked down at me and smiled warmly. He took my hand and we wandered further through the seemingly endless hallways.
I pointed out another splash of red paint on the ground to Garry, but he just gripped my hand tighter, walked faster, and didn't say anything...
After walking for what seemed like hours, we found what appeared to be a wooden painter's easel with and inscription upon it's white canvas saying, "Check directly south from the red paint.""I guess it's the only thing we can do for now..." Mumbled Garry with a shrug. He added something else, though it was almost inaudible to me. "I guess it really was red paint..."
He and I walked through the halls, trying to find more of the red paint until suddenly, not one, not two, but all three headless statues headed towards us!!!
"AHHH!!!" Screamed Garry.
He once again grabbed my hand and started running. The two of us scanned the floor for any signs of red paint as we ran for our lives.
"Over there!" I shouted.
Garry looked over and nodded, seeing the splatter where I'd pointed. We swiftly rounded a corner, almost running into the wall in the process and ran down the south hallway.
As we neared the end of the hallway, we saw a switch against the wall. Garry sprinted forward and pressed the switch.
We heard a loud sound from outside, and although we knew it must've had to do with the switch, we didn't know whether the sound had been good or bad.
I heard the headless statues getting closer though, so Garry picked me up and ran. He ran, and ran, and ran until finally navigating us out of the maze.
He slammed the door shut and set me down against the grey-colored wall.
"That... was... too close..." He gasped while his hands rested on his knees. He sunk to the ground next to me and panted.
"So now what?" He questioned.
I shrugged. How was I supposed to know? He was the adult. I'm just a nine-year-old girl...
I looked around nonetheless and noticed a door near the coffee and cake painting that hadn't been there before...
"Um... Garry?" I got his attention and pointed over to the door.
He slowly stood up from the ground and approached it... "Hey, this wasn't here before..."
He held out his hand, so I walked over and took it. Together, the two of us walked through the door...
