If a clock counted down to the minute you met your soulmate, would you want to know?

Would you want to spend every waking second watching that clock, and watch as your hours disappear, knowing that you've only got 2 minutes?

Do you want that tingling, pulling feeling that others tell you they've had?

That overwhelming sensation in the pit of your stomach as your feet automatically take you to where you needed to be to meet your soul mate?

John Laurens wanted exactly that, but not now.

He glanced at his clock, rubbed his eyes, showed his friends, he wasn't imagining things. He had always wanted to meet his soulmate, but not here, not at school. Especially not in the cafeteria. And to top it all off, Alexander wasn't there. His best friend wouldn't be the first to meet his soulmate. He watched his clock tick down.

He was on 20 seconds leftwhen he felt it. That pulling, sickening exciting feeling in the pit of his stomach. Suddenly, his legs where moving, and he was walking away from his table. Lafayette and Hercules hooted from behind him. His face was bright red as he walked to the center of the caffetteria. Everyone went silent, watching. They all knew what was happening, andJohn had all eyes on him.

He stood, as the seconds counted down.

5...

4.....

3.....

2.....

1.

No one was there.

Why wasn't anyone walking up to him? John felt his stomach tighten into a ball. No, no this was not happening. Where were they? His timer clicked, and started burning. He jumped, shouting and pulling it off. He looked down at it. John felt tears swell in his eyes, his heart dropped to his feet. His fingers went slack, and he dropped his broken timer.

He blinked, and slowly felt himself crumble to the floor. Everyone was dead silent, not even a cricket was chirping. They watched John sit there, tears falling loosely down his face, as he stared confused at the floor. Why hadn't anyone been there?

Suddenly, the doors burst open.

John didn't bother looking up. It was probably a teacher mad at a student.

Then, his name was called.

He looked up, sniffing and wiping his eyes, only to be tackled back onto the cold tile floor. "Jackie! Oh my god I'm so happy it's you oh my god dude I can't even believe-" the person went on to speak a mile a minute. John only knew one person who talked that fast. He opened his eyes, smiling up at Alexander like an idiot.

"Alexander, I- o-oh my god!" John shouted. He was overjoyed. Alexander cupped his face in one hand, smiling down at him with wide, happy eyes. John stared back, his puppy dog eyes coming through.  Alexander just hugged him again, giggling like a fool. They stayed like theater for a few more minutes, before standing and walking back to their table. Lafayette had his hands over his mouth, still in initial shock of the whole thing. Hercules was poking his arm, trying to get him to come back to reality.

He didn't, until the two boys sat down at the table. Lafayette slammed his palms down on the table, stood up which sent his chair flying, and screamed: "I fucking knew it!" John jumped slightly at the sudden outburst, and Alexander just blushed. "Damn, Lafayette, know it all much?" Hercules mumbled, smiling wildly, looking back at his food.

"Congratulations, you too." He said. John wrapped his arm around the back of Alexander's chair, and went back to eating. Alexander's blushed got deeper, and he quietly nibbled on his food with a huge smile. He was so excited he almost couldn't eat.

Later, after school, John had dragged Alexander back to his apartment. "Lexi~" john giggled, opening the door for him. Alex giggled back. "Yes, soulmate?" He said, making the word soulmate fancier. John giggled, grabbing Alexander's hips and swinging him slowly around their apartment.

John smiled, kissing his cheek. The two stood in their living room, resting their foreheads together. Alexander was twirling a finger around in John's hair, and John and slowly rocking them both back and forth.

John slowly backed Alexander up to their couch, smirking. "Lex, you've never known no one like me." He smiled, straddling his hips. "Up there, in your 'high society'" john chuckled, referencing Alexander's high ability classes. "They may tell you I'm no good, but they need to understand, just who I am..." he smiled, leaning down and kissing from Alex's collar bone to under his ear.

"I may be a real bad boy.." he smirked at Alexander's blush. "But baby I'm a real good man..." he said, rolling off the couch and grabbing Alexander's hand. He pulled him up, hands around Alexander's waist. "I may have a reckless streak at least a country mild wide." He smiled, twirling Alex, making sure their hips never lost contact. "If you're goanna run with me, it's goanna be a wild ride." He kissed his cheek, dancing with him again.

"When it comes to lovin you?" John slid a hand down Alexander's leg, then back up the inside of his thigh. "I've got velvet hands.."

Alexander hadn't even realized they were standing in their room, until John shoved him on their bed. "I'll show you how a real bad boy," john pulled Alex's hands over his head, leaning down and kissing him roughly. Alexander kissed back, smiling happily. "Can be a real good man." John finished, pulling back, lips slightly swollen. John laid his body on top of Alexander's, but Alex stopped him from going further.

"Hey Jackie?" He said quietly. John looked up at him. "Yeah, baby girl?" He asked, adding the nickname last minute. Alex smiled a bit more. "Babe I was just thinking..." he started. John payed apt attention. He didn't want Alex to feel ignored. Not the first night of finding his soulmate, not ever. Wait...

John thought back to the moment he lost his clock. If their clocks were supposed to count down to the minute they met their soulmates, why didn't it count down to the moment he first met Alexander? He looked back at Alex, who was starring up at him fearfully. He looked like he was about to say something. Like he was having a mental argument. "Baby girl?" John asked quietly. Was he having doubts? John didn't know what to think.

"John... what if...?" He started. "Alexander," john said. A lot could've happened in that one second difference. "Maybe the clocks needed us to be mentally and physically ready. " john said, trying to keep Alexander from crying. He had already saw his eyes glaze over.

"Y-you think?" He muttered, voice barley above a whisper.

"Positive." John said.
