I walked down the road, wondering how to state my question to Rosie. "Do you have an extra rope, by chance? No, that one's too forceful.. May I borrow a rope for my dear horse Star? Yeah, that one should work." I smiled, and continued down the road to Green Dragon. I waved at the couple walking out, and went in the pub. There's not a lot of people here.. I thought. I shrugged it off, and walked over to the counter to Rosie.
"Whatcha need, sweetie?" She smiled at me. "May I borrow a rope for Star? Merry doesn't have any rope and Frodo tied the rope to the fence at home so well that I can't get it undone." Rosie looked around for a few seconds, then looked back at me. "I believe we have some at home, Bri. Want to come down after the farewell party?" She asked. I gave her a questioning look, "farewell party? For who?" "Oh? You don't know? Merry and Pippin are leaving with Gandalf. Sam is staying because he wants to stay home and be the great father that he is." She informed me.
I stood in shock, not being able to move my mouth. I felt a clot form in my throat, and I felt tears coming down my face. He was leaving me.. But, he made a promise.. Frodo promised me Merry would take care of me. I looked back at Rosie, and she looked at me with worry on her face. "Sweetie, go talk to Sam. He'll get you that rope right away so you don't have to wait." She nodded. I nodded back, and walked out of the pub, holding myself together the best I could. I walked down the street to Sam and Rosie's house, but heard cheering near Merry's house. I saw a firework shoot up in the sky, and decided to go see what was going on.
I ran to Frodo's house and grabbed Star, my beautiful white horse who has the most exquisite spot pattern I've ever seen. I got on her, and ran my fingers through her black mane. "To Merry's." I whispered to her. She started walking towards his house, when we saw more fireworks appearing. I sighed heavily, and felt my heart start beating more. Please don't tell me it's true... Through the midsts of my thoughts, I didn't notice Star stop moving. We were outside the crowd. I hopped off of her, and led her through the people. We got to the middle, and there were Merry and Pippin, waving. Merry looked at me, and smiled. "Goodbye, Brianna!" He hollered, then turned around and started walking off with Pippin.
I couldn't take it anymore. I ran to them, and eventually caught up. I grabbed Merry by the shoulders, and whipped him around. "What's wrong, Bri? You're crying." He said, and wiped my tears from my eyes. "You're leaving me! You and Frodo both promised you would stay and take care of me! You even said you love me!" I burst out, not being able to hold in the pain. Merry cupped his hands around my cheeks, and kissed my forehead. "Bri, honey, I would never keep that kind of promise. Neither would Frodo. The day he brought you to me, I regretted ever saying you could stay. I don't love you at all." He grinned. "Now, get out of my sight, little girl." He pushed me back, and continued walking with Pippin. I burst into tears, cursing at Merry.
I was woken up by a sudden rock of my body. I open my tear filled eyes to see Merry beside me. "Brianna, are you okay? I heard you crying and screaming.." I breathed heavily, then realized, it was all a dream.. I hugged Merry tightly, and he hugged me back, running his hand through my long, tangled hair. He rocked me back and forth, "it's okay, Bri. Merry's here, I'm here. You're okay. Everything's going to be okay.." He kissed my forehead, and smiled. "Why don't I just stay in here tonight?" I nod quickly. He lays me back down on the bed, and lies beside me. He wraps me in a hug tightly, "I will protect you and love you forever, my dear Bri." He whispers, before falling asleep into a deep slumber.
