soulmate/modern au: the world is black and white until you're near the one.
"Hey, are you done yet?" Yamuraiha groaned, moping around. "We need to hurry if we want to buy ketchup, the store is closing in a half of an hour!"
"I thought the convenience store was open for twenty-four hours."
"Well, it's not!" She grumbled, almost throwing a tantrum like a little child. "My dinosaur chicken nuggets will get cold!"
Staring out the window in mock disbelief at her childish nature, you found your way back to her blackened hair, her pale white hair; Yamuraiha's gray shirt and pants.
A monotone world.
You finally laughed at her words, pulling on your coat, snapping gum in your mouth with cheer. "Fine, fine, let's go."
...
"I thought you said you would stop eating so late at night?" You asked your friend as she skipped alongside you.
"I'm on a diet, too! Four hours between a meal and sleep. It won't make me gain weight, I'm positive."
"It's already eleven...are you planning to sleep at three a.m.?"
She chose to ignore your question as she stepped into the cooled store with glee for her condiment.
The moment you stepped your foot past the sliding glass doors, the world painted itself. Things you had never even seen before revealed themselves to you.
Everything around you had never looked so bright and bold. You staggered, barely able to take in all the new things.
You shut your eyes tightly before opening them a crack, hoping it was not just another delirious thought from imagination.
It wasn't.
Yamuraiha had noticed you had not caught up to her, she rounded back to see you stagger and look around yourself in confusion.
"You-- you are not black and white anymore!" You almost whispered. "This isn't a dream! I can finally see--!"
Yamuraiha's eyes widened, almost looking as if they would pop out. "You can...see?" She gaped, also whispering. "Oh my god!"
"Oh my god."
"Oh my god," she confirmed. "That means they're here!" She could barely contain her squeal.
A female worker approached, she wore the brightest and shiniest things you could imagine and see. "Is there something wrong--?"
You grabbed her, "where is the microphone?"
She stammered at the close contact. "I-it's the small walkie-talkie I have, but-- ah, Miss! You can't just do that!" She protested when you grabbed it from her waist.
You pressed the button labeled, 'talk'.
"You who just discovered color! Come here-- I'm in the ketchup isle! I'm the confused-looking girl--"
The woman grabbed the device back before you could continue. "Miss!" She huffed, "you can't do that-- really!" She stormed off.
"Thanks for the help!" Yamuraiha waved, quietly, at her back. She looked at you, a ketchup bottle in each hand, "that was amazing!!"
"Are you the confused-looking girl in the ketchup isle?" A tan-looking foreigner with a lovely grin stood by the condiments.
"Ah, yes..."
Yamuraiha immediately grabbed your arm. "Oh, good news!! He's hot!"
"Thank you, I realized that." You hissed in her ear.
"That was an interesting announcement you made in a public store." He laughed, his eyes crinkled at the corners when he did.
"I'm Sharrkan."
"I-- yeah." You managed, with a wave.
"You dumb idiot, say your name!" Yamuraiha whispered, urgently, turning back to the ketchups: pretending to study the labels.
"My name is (Y/N)."
"Do you like ketchup?" He asked, laughing again. You noticed he held many bags of ramen noodles.
"N-no! My friend wanted some for her dinosaur chicken nuggets..." You wanted to punch yourself.
"Oh, dinosaur chicken nuggets? They make those?"
You slipped him a surprised look. "You have not lived until you have eaten dinosaur chicken nuggets."
"I didn't know they still have dinosaur meat," he joked.
Yamuraiha muttered under her breath, "so not funny, minus ten points for his weird sense of humor."
You laughed from her comment, but Sharrkan might have thought it was from his joke; because he also grinned back.
"It is kind of late for a meeting, will you contact me soon?" He offered his phone. "Will you put your phone number in?"
"Ah, of course."
You punched the buttons, almost crying because you would have never met him if you had not decided to buy ketchup for Yamuraiha's dinosaur chicken nuggets.
"I'll be going home first, then, I'll look forward to hearing from you, ketchup girl!" He smiled when you handed him back his phone.
You cracked a smile.
Yamuraiha started laughing right when he left. "Aren't you glad you came to buy ketchup?" She demanded, holding her stomach from laughing.
"I'm soo glad I decided to come with you to buy ketchup for your chicken nuggets today."
