Two patrol boats came off our starboard bow. From what I could see they weren’t meant for ship to ship combat. Just from casual observation there where no noticeable, anti-aircraft guns, torpedo tubes, or missile launchers on either one.

“They look russian made,” my girlfriend Mackenzie crouched next to me on the top deck of the Revenge. Last week our homes were invaded and our families killed. By either skill or sheer luck seven of us got away and hijacked a truck and camper. We drove from southern Iowa to Los Angeles where we linked up with a street gang who was willing to assist us in our quest to drive out the mysterious invaders from our homelands. Together we took a military yacht and renamed it the Revenge. From there we proceeded to the Midway Atoll but failed to take them in a head on assault and decided to take on the enemy ship by ship. The two incoming patrol craft where our first targets.

“Knowing where they came from doesn’t really help us a whole lot though,” I took the binoculars that she was offering me and peered through them. Neither boat had a gun bigger than a .30 emplacement. There looked to be less than twenty crewmen apiece so I was confident that we could take them without too much effort. Their maneuverability would make up for their lack of firepower but we had enough firepower at our disposal to blast them both to the pit but we would only do so if we had to.

“Radio the others and tell them to prepare for boarders,” I instructed Mackenzie. We wanted to get them away from their boats and get them spread out before we let them have it. She turned to the nearest com link and passed along the message.

I meanwhile watched through the binoculars as one of the men who stood near the bow of one of the boats picked up a megaphone. “You have committed crimes against the new world regime. We request that you come peacefully and quietly with and stop further bloodshed.”

I stood up and in my loudest voice shouted back, “And what will happen to us then?”

“We’ll take you back to the islands to stand judgement. If you come peacefully I will give you my word that you will be given a fair trial.”

I picked up my Tommy gun from off the deck. “And if we refuse?”

“Then you will be boarded and taken in by force,” was the reply.

I used the laser on my gun to blow up the megaphone in his face. After sending a few curse words my way he signaled his troops to pull along side us. What he didn’t realize that he was walking into a trap for I had our crew stationed along that side the ship. Mackenzie and I ran down to join them.
