El
I'm overly happy that Mike loved his little birthday surprise. After everything he's done for me, he deserves anything and everything. Just thinking about him makes me smile.
I sat wrapped in his arms on the couch in the living room, the following weekend after his birthday. We sat and watched a show coming on until the annoying chain of commercials took over the screen. I looked over to Mike.
"Ugh, why do commercials exist?" I complained.
"You're asking the wrong dude," he replied as we laughed.
My attention was caught by a loud commercial on the tv. I jumped up and flinched as Mike began rubbing my arm.
"Hey, you okay?" he asked.
"Ya, ya," I said, laughing. "The noise startled me."
"Scaredy cat," he teased and I started laughing harder. "Kidding."
I smiled up at him and looked back over the tv. There were people in the middle of a dark city on the streets yelling at a huge crystallized ball up above the whole city. They were counting backwards from 10. Suddenly, small pieces of paper of began falling down from little rockets. They started zooming in on people kissing and hugging.
"Ew," I joked looking over to Mike. He leaned in and kissed me.
"Well see it's not disgusting if its a kiss from you," I embarrassingly continued.
"Okay El," he sarcastically responded.
"Anywayyyy," I started, changing the subject. "What is this? What are these people celebrating?"
"They're celebrating a holiday called New Year's. Remember a couple days ago in Mr. Clarke's class? When he was talking about the planets' rotations?"
"Ya. The Earth makes a full rotation around the sun every year."
"Yup, so when we reach the full rotation, it signifies the beginning of a new year."
"Ya, I know that but why does everyone celebrate it?"
"Well see, not everyone is the big science nerd you are," he began joking as I laughed into his chest. "Others tend to focus on goals and their achievements throughout the year. That's why they celebrate. To honor the triumphs of the year and say goodbye to the bad memories."
I stared at him with a doubtful look, smiling.
"What?" he squealed.
"Who knew you could be so poetic?" I giggled, he laughed back. "You must really care about this holiday."
"Uhh, I-I don't know, i-its just fun to celebrate it," he tried. "Come on, what's not fun about yelling and screaming and spending time with your friends and family? And shouldn't it be the most fun thing since you're gonna be here with me this year?"
"Hmmm, I don't know. You seem pretty lame. Should I even choose to spend it with you?" I laughed as he pouted. "Aw no! I love you!"
"No you don't," he groaned as I stood up from the couch in front of him. I grabbed his hands in mine. I leaned closer to him, seeing his huge smile.
"You're right. I don't," I joked. He leaned in wanting to kiss me, but I backed away. Mike cutely pouted even more and widened his sad eyes.
"You want to kiss me?" I teased, laughing. He began frantically nodding his head.
"Too bad." I began walking away very slowly. Mike sprinted up and wrapped his arms around me before I could move away. He turned me around and softly kissed me.
"Can I tell you a secret?" he asked, pulling me into a hug.
"Only always."
"But are you sure you're ready for it?"
"I love you."
"How'd you know that was the secret?"
"Because its true. I love you more than you love me," I fought.
"Lies. I love you more than you can ever imagine."
"Show me how much," I challenged. He stepped away from me and held up his hands above his sides.
"I love you this much," he said with his hands still in the air. While he had no chance of protecting himself, I started tickling him.
"Hey-HAHAHAHH- stop that!" he pleaded.
These little moments with Mike are what I love about spending time with him. I hope I never in my deepest of dreams forget him.
Mistry
"TELL ME WHERE SHE IS!!!!!" I yelled in the curly haired boy's face. I sat him down in the small dark room with a long table and chair. He's my only key to find Eleven. Although so far, he's deemed himself to be completely useless.
"NEVER! S-SHE'S MY FRIEND!"
"You know what. She was my friend too. Before her backstabbing self betrayed me and left."
"El is the sweetest being in the world. Don't you dare say that!" he screeched, slamming his handcuffed hands onto the table.
"Well don't we all believe in the same things Dustin," I sarcastically whispered, inching closer to him.
"How do you know my name?! Where did you find me?"
"I have my ways."
"Look lady. I don't know who you are and frankly, I don't care. But you will not hurt Eleven. You will not hurt anyone."
"I am Mistry. I am - well used to be - Eleven's best friend. I have powers just like her. I was stuck in that lab right with her. But she never acknowledged it. I was her best friend, I conjured up genius plans to escape, I engineered devices that would give us ultimate power so that no one would have to go through the hell that we went through."
"I'm sorry, did I ask?" he sassily retorted. I continued, ignoring his rude comment.
"She left me. She took all her older siblings and left me but she didn't realize that I was still there. She didn't realize that I was important too."
"Eleven escaped with all of her loved siblings. We helped get them safe. She is the youngest out of all of you."
"Funny what you normal humans believe."
"What? I don't care," he spoke to himself. "I watched all of her siblings return to their normal lives. They are all safe."
"Also funny how you can say that as another of her siblings stands before you."
"This makes no sense. Eleven would have told us about you. She would have never hurt you."
"Surprises can be found anywhere."
"Stop with these weird quotes! You're not cool!"
"Being cool is not one of my worries. Finding and depriving Eleven from everything she has is. She does not deserve anything!"
"Shut up. SHUT UP!"
"No one's making you scream Dustin. No one is hurting you. Just tell me and I'll leave you alone."
"I don't want you to just leave me alone. I want you to leave all of us alone. Including El."
"I'm sorry, that would go against who I am."
"Who even are you?"
I turned around to face him.
"Twelve."
