(Double Update!!)
Mike

Today's the day. The most awkward of them all. My 14th birthday. Am I ready to dodge the year old question "how does it feel to be 14?" Am I ready to accidentally say "you too" when someone wishes me a happy birthday? Am I ready to give a fake smile to those who want to be nice to be just because its my birthday?

Answer to all those questions, no.

I rubbed my groggy eyes awake to the sound of Nancy yelling from her room. I groaned and finally got up out of my bed, ruffling my hair.

"NANCY!" I annoyingly yelled, opening her bedroom door. She was standing by a small mirror on her dresser with her hair that looked like someone just electrocuted it.

"MIKEEE! GET OUT! OWWWWW!" she shouted, attempting to get something out of her frizzy hair. I rolled my eyes and stepped closer to her.

"How on Earth did you get a piece of paper stuck in here?" I sassed, pulling out the thing that has been making her yell all morning.

"Oh my god, finally!" she said, turning around with a disgusted look on her face. "What are you doing in my room?"

"You were screaming at the top of your lungs!" I fought as she started pushing me out the door.

"Get out!" she ended, slamming the door in my face.

"But Nancy. The note!" I tried, but she wouldn't answer. I looked down at the piece of red construction paper. I carefully unfolded it from its crumbled state, revealing a small message and a drawing on the paper that was shaped as a heart.

"I love you more than Eggos," I read out loud, a small smile growing on my face. I started walking down the steps through the first floor until reaching the basement.

When I arrived, I expected to see El with some cheesy birthday surprise. I love the fact she would do anything for my birthday, but I already warned her not to.

However, I saw her still sound asleep on her bed. She was cuddled into the bedsheets as her head rested on her arm. I slightly jumped on top to hug her.

"Mike?" she softly said, peeling open her eye.

"That was a sweet little trick you pulled," I realized, pulling away from our hug so she can sit up.

"What? Mike what trick?" she looked at me with confused eyes.

"Haha, very funny El," I sarcastically replied, holding the note in my hand. "Did you not write this?"

She took the note in her hand and a worried expression filled her face. My smile soon faded away.

"I-I didn't write this," El stuttered as she began breathing heavily.

"Yes you did. It's your handwriting."

"No Mike," she told me, handing the note back. "I didn't."

I looked at her, furrowing my eyebrows in doubt. There's no way she did not write that note.

"Well might as well starting getting ready," she said, starting to get up from her bed and grab her towels and clothes.

I stood up and held the note in my hand. I stared at it for a second until looking back up at El.

"Oh by the way, happy birthday!" she said and lightly kissed me on the cheek, holding her stuff in her hands. She darted up the stairs, leaving me downstairs.

El

That was close. That one note was only about 7 percent of the entire surprise I have planned for Mike, and if he can figure that out that quickly, I'm going to have to pretend like I have no clue what's happening for the rest of the day.
