Aaron Burr strolled down Diagon Alley with his nose in a copy of The Daily Prophet on his usual evening walk. The words KING CUTS SPENDING ON WAR blazed from the front page. There was an explosion of outrage in the Ministry that morning, especially among the Aurors, who had been doing most of the dirty work thus far. Now, with less money going towards the fighting, this war would be even more difficult. Many wizards and witches were even calling for George King to be sacked, as he was displaying foolish behavior when it came to dealing with You-Know-Who.
Burr folded the paper in disgust and shoved it into his pocket. He glanced around the Alley, trying to get his mind off the troubling news. He smirked when he caught sight of three figures walking through the crowds.
"Uh oh," he laughed. "Look who it is. The Schuyler sisters."
Angelica Schuyler walked with a purpose, pushing through people with the newspaper clutched tightly in her hand. Her sisters, Eliza and Peggy were struggling to keep up with her.
Peggy looked around anxiously and grabbed her older sister's hand. "We should go. Daddy said we needed to be home by sundown. Its not safe anymore."
"Daddy doesn't need to know. Don't say anything, " she warned.
Peggy didn't stop. "He said that we're not allowed to come down here."
Angelica tossed her curls back and turned around. " We're not going down Knockturn Alley or anything. Relax. And if you can't handle it, you're free to go."
Her youngest sister grumbled but didn't leave. Eliza smiled kindly and took her hand and the sisters continued down the street.
After a moment, Peggy spoke up. "Its bad enough Daddy wants to fight in the war. Being a part of the Order and all. That's already putting us in danger without strolling around after dark."
"But we get to hear what people are saying about the war, won't we?" Eliza pressed, but Peggy didn't look convinced. "Angelica, what are we looking for, exactly?" she asked.
Angelica smiled confidently. "I'm looking for an intelligent mind at work. This hidden Alley is the best place to find new ideas flying around. I'm sure we can find some new mind with interesting ideologies about the war. I need new material for my column for the Prophet, anyways."
"Excuse me, miss," a man said smoothly, sliding up to Angelica and putting an arm around her. She curled her lip and him and pulled herself out of her grasp. "Aaron Burr. What a surprise." Her tone made it plain he was not what she was looking for.
His coy smile didn't waver, though. "I couldn't help but notice you, Miss Schuyler. You light up the summer night with a glow." He leaned closer. "You seem to be doing well for yourself. Your purfume smells like your Daddy had more than a few galleon, I wager. What are you doing here? Looking for ideas? I think I could help you there."
By now, Eliza and Peggy looked like they were ready to kill him. "Burr, you disgust me," Angelica stated, turning her nose up at him.
"Ah, so you've discussed me?"
Angelica swelled with annoyance and fury at this man's behavior. "Burr, you are the last person I would talk to or about. Wizards like Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson know where it's at, unlike you. How about I throw some Common Sense in your face and perhaps you will find something worthwhile to discuss. With someone else."
As Burr stood there, dumbfounded, she threw him her copy of The Daily Prophet and Disapparted, her sisters in tow.
