Eliza stood in the back of the ballroom, almost wishing she could disappear. Her father's morale-boosting ball was in full swing and she did not want to be social. She was happy to strike up a conversation with people she knew, but there weren't many, due to her shyness. Even at Hogwarts, her closest friends had been her sisters and they were currently occupied with the young men that were in presence. Peggy had found one of her old friends from Hufflepuff, Stephen Van Rensselaer, and Angelica was surrounded by a small crowd who was hanging on her every word.

She fiddled with the strap of her bright blue dress and touched all the silver flowers in her hair self-consciously as a fast paced song started up and everyone swarmed the dance floor. Nearly everyone. Eliza's attention was drawn to four young men who were standing directly opposite in her, on the other side of the room. The shortest one, who was seeming to be giving some sort of speech, suddenly turned around as the music increased tempo and volume.

Eliza forgot how to breathe. This man made her heart skip a beat. He was incredibily handsome. Tanned skin, dark hair, and eyes that shone with laughter and intelligence. His smile seemed to light up the room more than all the chandles hanging from the ceiling. She stood on her tipetoes to catch his eye, but a dancing couple blocked her view.

She had to find Angelica. She weaved in and out, around couples and groups until she found her sister near the butterbeer table. "Find anyone yet?" Angelica laughed. "You're too wonderful to let your shyness get-."

"I did find someone," Eliza said breathlessly. Her sister's eyebrows shot up in surprise. Not only because she was pleased, she had never been interrupted by her sister before.

"Who is it?" Angelica asked excitedly. Eliza stood on her toes and located the handsome young man.

"There!" she pointed. "He's mine, Angelica." Her sister's face was suddenly unreadable. "What?" she asked worriedly. "Do you think we aren't a good match?"

"No, no he's fine," she said absently. Then she grinned mischeviously. "I'll go talk to him. He has to know the pretty girl who's acting completely helpless over him."

"What! No, wait!" Eliza exclaimed. A small panic rose up inside of her as Angelica confidently strode across the ballroom to the man and his friends. The man had his back to the dancers so he didn't see Angelica approaching. But his friends did. The tall one whisphered something to the others and all three of them scampered off.

Eliza laughed quietly as the young man looked very confused as to where his friends had gone. When he saw Angelica, he smiled and the two immediately jumped into a conversation. It wasn't a particularly long talk, but Eliza wondered what they were talking about. She gave a small sigh when the man laughed and smoothly kissed her sister's hand, a pure gentleman.

Angelica hooked her arm around his and began walking him to the other side of the ballroom. Right for Eliza. "Oh no!" she whisphered. She hurriedly tried to make herself more presentable.

"Where are you taking me?" he asked, his eyes dancing.

Angelica laughed. "I'm about to change your life."

"Then by all means, lead the way."

The two stopped infront of Eliza and she dropped into a quick curtsy. "Elizabeth Schuyler. Its a pleasure to meet you...uhhh." She blushed, not knowing the man's name.

"I'm Alexander Hamilton," he said, kissing her hand. She tried not to faint. "You said your name is Schuyler?"

"My sister," Angelica explained, beaming.

"Thank you for all you have done for the war," Eliza said formally. Its what she was told to say whenever she met an Auror or a member of the Order.

Alexander gave a sideways smile. "If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it."

Ohhhh. Eliza felt she was floating with his words, drowning in his dark eyes. "C-care to dance?" she stammered.

"It would be my pleasure," Alexander said, holding out his arm. She took it gladly.

"I'll leave you to it," Angelica waved, sashaying away.

After they danced, the two had talked and if possible, Eliza fell even more in love. Alexander was charming, sweet, and funny. He was terribly smart and he knew it, too. When she finally went to bed, she whisphered his name over and over. When she awoke, an unfamiliar barn owl was tapping at her window, a letter clutched in his beak.

She hurriedly opened it and let out a squeal.

Eliza,

I cannot stop thinking of you. Your grace and kindness has made my head and heart spin, like no other has done before. I dreamed of you last night, dressed in blue, which is my favorite color, by the way. The color of sky. It's like the sky's the limit when I'm around you, Eliza. I say your name over and over. Washington will think I am mad! In a way, I am. Just about you. I am busy with the war and when I can't see you, I will send letter after letter and wear out my quill to the nub.

I will visit in a few days time.

Sweetest love,

Alexander Hamilton

Eliza fell back on her bed, the letter clutched tighly to her chest. She reread it until she memorized every beautiful word.

"What's going on?" The door opened and Angelica and Peggy came in, still in thier nightgowns. Her older sister took in the situation. "You got a letter!"

"Oooh, who sent it?" Peggy shireked, leaping on the bed. "What does it say?"

Eliza read aloud, trembling slightly. When she was done, her sisters were smiling nearly as big as she was. "That's so sweet of him," Peggy sighed. "You know what? I'm going to send an owl to Stephen, so he knows I'm thinking of him." She scrambled off the bed and out of the room.

Angelica sat next to Eliza. "Don't rush into this," she warned. "You just met him and I don't want to see you get hurt."

Eliza laughed and hugged her sister. "Don't worry about me," she said. "I know what I'm doing." She looked at the letter again and gasped. "Wait, he's visiting in a few days time? Here? Our house?"

"Yes," Angelica said slowly. "That is what it says."

"Oh no!" Eliza wailed, jumping off the bed. "I'm not ready!" She ran out of the room in a panic.
