Eliza came running up to her, breathless, her eyes light. Angelica beamed, so happy to see her in a good mood. "Find anyone yet?" she teased. "You're too wonderful to let your shyness get-."
"I did find someone," Eliza interrupted. She hadn't done that before. Angelica silently applauded which ever man that had started to bring her meek sister out of her shell.
"Who is it?"
Eliza looked around for a moment and pointed to the other side of the ballroom. "There! He's mine, Angelica."
Angelica didn't say anything. That man was the one she had been eyeballing all night, but hadn't decided to talk to him yet. Even across the way, she had fallen in love with his dark eyes, and laugh she could hear from here. But Eliza wanted him too.
"What?" Her sister's voice snapped her out of her revierie. "Do you think we aren't a good match?"
Not as good as we would be, she thought. But she said, "No, no he's fine." She decided to take action and see if this man was all cracked up to be. "I'll go talk to him. He has to know the pretty girl who's acting completely helpess over him."
As she walked off, she heard Eliza frantically call, "What! No, wait!"
Angelica walked with confidence to the man on the other side of the room. His friends elbowed eachother and ran off when they saw her approaching. The man turned and smiled when he saw her.
"Hi," he said, crossing his arms and trying to look suave and descreet at the same time. He was even better looking up close. Young, tanned, and just a bit of peach fuzz. For a second, she forgot what to say. Her entire body felt as if it was on fire.
"H-hello."
"Looking for something, miss?"
"Perhaps," she said offhandedly, regaining her old confidence.
"You strike me as a woman who has never been satisfied."
She laughed and crossed her arms, mimicking him. "Is that right?"
"You're like me," he said. "I've never been satisfied."
It was time for the introductions. "My name is Angelica Schuyler."
"I know. I'm Alexander Hamilton." He gave a small bow and kissed her hand. "Do you remember me?" he asked, quietly, staring up at her.
She froze. Did she know him? Looking harder, he did look familiar. "Hogwarts?"
"Yes!" he beamed. "We were in the Slug Club!"
"Oh, that!" she laughed. "I had almost forgotten. I'm afriad I don't know that much about you though, Mr. Hamilton. Where's your family from?"
Alexander looked away quickly. "Unimportant," he muttered. Changing the subject, he said, "There's a million things I haven't done but just you wait, Miss Angelica."
The world seemed to pause. Alexander was absoultely wonderful. Their conversation was only two minutes, maybe three, but there was a connection, she just knew it. He was definetly as smart as her, which had been hard to find. His brains extended to his flirting abilities, but Angelica didn't seem to mind about that. The only thing was his mysterious response to her question about his family. He looked so nervous and fidgety. Something must have happened. The poor man. Angelica wanted to take him away from this place, but she turned and saw Eliza's helpless eyes.
She took a deep breath and made her choice. Linking her arm with Alexander's, she led him across the ballroom towards her sister.
He looked at her, amused. "Where are you taking me?"
"I'm about to change your life."
His eyebrows rose as her bold statement. "Then by all means, lead the way."
Eliza looked completely flustered as they stopped in front of her. She curtised, not sure what to do. "Elizabeth Schuyler," she said, introducing herself. "Its a pleasure to meet you...uhh." Her pale face went red.
"I'm Alexander Hamiltion," he said, quickly, saving her embarrassment. He kissed her hand and looked back and forth between the two women. "You said your name is Schuyler?"
"My sister," Angelica confirmed. Now he had two sisters at his disposal. What was going to happen next?
Eliza spoke up. "Thank you for all you have done for the war."
Alexander smiled, happy to get recognition. "If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it."
Angelica's heart plunged, but she kept a happy face.
Eliza looked over the moon. "C-care to dance?" she asked, breathlessly.
"It would be my pleasure." They linked arms.
Angelica waved. "I'll leave you to it."
The ballroom, Alexander and Eliza, and the other people dissolved in smokey liquid. With a gasp, Angelica burst out of the Pensive and onto the floor of her father's office. Oh, things could have ended up so differently! Looking back into her memory had made her remember why she had done what she had did, though it didn't make her feel any better.
To start, she was the oldest. Her family was very traditional and wanted her to marry someone wealthy to stay up the social ladder. Alexander had nothing, but it didn't matter to her though. Also, she had to be stupid to think he didn't know the benefits of marrying into the Schuyler family. The oldest sibling gets the most inheritence so he may have wanted to elevate his status. The others, not so much, so perhaps that's why she let him meet Eliza. She didn't want him to marry her if all he wanted was money. But after meeting him, that wasn't the case. He truly loved Eliza.
Angelica kicked the wall. "Nice going," she scolded herself. Alexander had been right. She was never going to be satisfied.
And finally, she knew Eliza as if they were the same person, just like her own mind. She was the most trusting and kind person she had ever met. Angelica could have told her sister that she loved Alexander too and Eliza would have given him up without batting an eye. She would say she was okay with it, but Angelica knew she would be lying.
Placing the Pensive back in the cabinet, she wondered what might have been if she hadn't judged Alexander so quickly.
The noise of the reception hit her ears as she reentered the ballroom. Eliza almost immediately ran over and grabbed her arm. "Where have you been? We're about to cut the cake!" She pulled Angelica over to the cake table before she could answer.
Laurens clapped her on the back. "There you are!"
"We were so worried!" Peggy cried, hugging her.
"I'm fine," she reassured them. She smiled at Alexander, who winked. "Are you going to cut this cake or not?"
As everyone cheered as the happy couple cut the cake and fed each other bites, Angelica sat back and smiled at seeing her sister's joy at being Alexander's bride.
At least I'll be able to keep his eyes in my life, she thought.
Will he ever be satisfied?
