If the next week was a blur, the next few months were a whirlwind. Alexander was true to his word. He visited and when he couldn't, he wrote beautiful love letters. After reading each one, Eliza would fold it carefully and tuck it into a little wooden box she kept under her bed.

Everyone loved Alexander. Peggy would confide in him, telling him things she wouldn't tell either of her sisters. Angelica would playfully ask if she could share Alexander. To that, Eliza would laugh and say, "Get your own man!"

Philip Schuyler had previously known him through the Order and kept and even closer eye on him as he grew closer to his second daughter. He was polite, but very intimidating whever the young wizard came to call.

Her mother, Catherine, absoluetly doted on Alexander. She treated him like he was her own son, especially when she learned he didn't have any parents.

"The poor dear," Catherine had sighed, after Alexander had left the house, one spring evening. "He is so kind and hardworking. Always smiling."

"He's going to have to be even more hardworking if he thinks he's going anywhere with Eliza," her father said sternly.

"What do you mean, Papa?" Eliza asked. "He's nearly kills himself whenever he goes off to work. I'm afriad."

"So am I," her mother agreed. "You-Know-Who is stronger than ever and muggleborns are in even more danger than before. We should ask him to stay with us, until the war blows over."

"No, Mother!" Eliza exclaimed. "Alexander doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for him and he loves his work with Washington and his friends. He would be angry if we called him away."

"You nearly kill yourself with this work. Relax for a minute," Laurens said. He and Mulligan had come to see their friend, but found him nose-deep in crumpled parchment and ink.

"Its not work," Alexander said, without thinking, scratching out a phrase.

Mulligan's eyes lit up and he snatched the parchemnt. "Is it a loooove letter to a special little witch?" he teased, scanning the contents. "Spring blooms and so does our love," he read loudly. "I may vomit."

Laurens giggled. "I wouldn't."

"Give it back!" Alexander cried angrily, reaching for the letter. Mulligan was much taller than him though, and held it over his head, grinning wickedly.

"You think she is the one?" he asked, laughing.

"Of course!"

"Its that Schuyler girl from the ball, isn't it!" Laurens exclaimed excitedly.

"The scary one?" Mulligan asked.

"No! The one with the striaght, dark hair. Right?"

"Yep," Alexander beamed. He pointed his wand at the letter. "Accio!" The parchemnt zipped out of Mulligan's fingers and Alexander caught it and quickly slipped it into an envelope.

The man laughed. "Alexander, you are the last one I'd expect to settle down."

"I'm full of surprises."

"The day you get married, is the day I'll be a flower girl."

Laurens fell to the floor, laughing. "Careful, Mulligan," he warned. "You never know what could happen around Hamilton."

A few weeks later, Alexander approached Philip Schuyler outside his house. He was so nervous he might pass out or throw up.

"Good afternoon, Alexander," Mr. Schuyler said pleasantly. "How are you, my boy?"

"Fine," he said quickly. "Sir, I..." The words faltered on his tounge.

"Yes?" The older wizard crossed his arms, as if he already knew what he was going to say.

Alexander decided there was no way around it. "Sir, I love Eliza and I want to ask for your blessing. I'd like to marry her."

Eliza didn't know why everyone was acting so strange. Her sisters were smiling like idiots and her mother kept bursting into tears. Her father was even more stone-faced than usual. Even Alexander was acting wierd. He hung around the house like he usually did, but he seemed distracted.

"Is something wrong, Alex?" she asked him, as they sat down for dinner.

"N-no!" he gulped. "Everything is fine. I'm...looking forward to dessert."

Eliza raised an eyebrow but decided not to push him. Everyone was acting even more funny, if possible at dinner. Conversation carried on, like usual, but there were long, awkward pauses that Alexander usually filled, but he kept staring at his plate, sweating.

As the remains of coconut cake were cleared away, Eliza stood up. "I'd like to know what is going on, right now! You're all keeping something from me. I know it!"

She stared right at her father, but he shook his head. "Its not for me to explain." He nodded towards Alexander. The young man was no longer in his seat. He was down on one knee and looked like he was going to faint.

She gasped and felt tears forming in her eyes. She heard her mother and sisters crying quietly.

"Eliza," he began, taking her hand. "I don't have a galleon to my name. I don't own land, command Aurors, or have any ounce of fame. All I have is my honor, my heart, and a top-notch brain."

She gave a small laugh at the rhyming. He laughed too, probably out of nerves and continued, minus the poetry.

"You and your family bring out a different side of me, Eliza. I think of your sisters as my own and your parents are wonderful people.

"I love you, Eliza. I've grown up without a family since I was young. My father left and my mother died and I grew up a bit wild. There is no doubt about that. I don't mind having a family again and I want to make that family with you. I swear, Eliza, as long as I'm alive you'll never feel helpless. I won't go anywhere." He took a deep breath and pulled out a small box.

Tears were streaming down her cheeks. This was it. He was going to ask.

"Elizabeth Schuyler, will you marry me?"

There was a long pause. Then, "Yes! Yes!" Eliza exclaimed, lunging forward. She grabbed him by the collar and kissed him hard. His arms wrapped around her and he twirled her around the room. When they broke apart, she didn't know if the tears on his face were hers or his.

Her father shook Alexander's hand, smiling. "Be true, Mr. Hamilton."

"I will, sir."

"Good. Now, what will you be serving at the wedding?"
