Asami
I hop on one of Varrickâs boats that night. I go as late as possible, hoping no one would try to bother me. Luckily, I didnât get any trouble until I made it to the South. There, the blockade of ships still stood. They blocked all the ports, making it impossible to get in or out.
I remember Korra taking us to a deserted part of the island when we left the first time, so I steer my boat in that direction. When I get there, Iâm disappointed to see that they have already discovered this spot and are patrolling it with a few officers.
There isnât enough time or space to park the boat, but I might be able to swim there. I cautiously look down at the dark blue water. It looks shallow enough that I shouldnât drown, and Dad taught me how to swim at a young age. It couldnât be any different than the pool at the mansion.
Finally, I give in and quietly slip into the water. Itâs colder than any pool water, so I swim as fast as I can. I occasionally pop my head up to catch a breath and check for guards, but no one seems to see me.
I finally make it to the icy land. Iâm shivering, and my teeth are chattering. I hurry out of the water and into one of the tents set up for the Northern soldiers. If the troops are here, that must mean Unalaq and Desna arenât far either.
I slip my head into all of the tents I can, but no one is in any of them.
It isnât until I hear a familiar voice that I know Iâm close.
âPlease, you have to help!â I hear Eska yell. I make my way over to the tent sheâs in. One the door, there is the distinct sign of the healers there. What was Eska doing in the healing tent? Who needed help?
I carefully slid open the curtain, but forgot everything when I saw who was lying in Eskaâs arms. It was like my worst nightmare come true.
Desna.
I rush into the tent without thinking, my heart thumping in my ear. All I could think was Desna, Desna, Desna. He lay on one of the cots in the room, his chest bare chest exposed. Thereâs a jagged red scar just below his heart. His eyes are shut closed, and he doesnât appear to be awake. I gasp at the sight of him.
I see Eskaâs head whip around to face me, her mouth forming a grimace. âNot now,â she says, perhaps not registering who I am.
I ignore her, rushing to Desnaâs side. âWhat happened?â I demand. I take his hand in mine and look down at him. âDesna?â
âHe was attacked,â Eska says simply. âNow move so the healers can help him!â
I stay where I am, refusing to move. Eska only groans. âYou donât even know him! Heâs my brother!â
âDonât even know him?â I echo, my eyes moving away from Desna. I meet Eskaâs icy glare. âYou donât know what youâre talking about. Desna needs me.â I decide not to add how much I love him, since I donât think this is the best time.
She only sighs in defeat. âFine, like I care. Just let them help him.â
The healers move in around me, but I refuse to left go of Desnaâs hand. I see the healers take buckets of spirit water to help Desna, the liquid glowing a bright blue over his chest. It turns his face a bluish color, making him look almost peaceful.
Before I know whatâs happening, I feel hot tears start to run down my cheeks. I wipe them away, telling myself that heâll be just fine.
The healers spend a while fussing over him. After a while, they all step back. âIâm not sure thereâs any-,â one of the nurses gets cut off by a heavy groan.
âDesna!â I shout, squeezing his hand even tighter as his eyelashes flutter open.

Fanfiction"Desna," I reply. I spin around to see him. He must have taken that loosen up comment seriously, because he's out of his normal robes and in a regular, waist length jacket and basic pants. The bottom of his hair is tucked into the neck of his jacket...
