My mother would be furious with me if she found out that I snuck out to the village hospice again. I climb the tendrils on the outside of my bedroom wall and land on my face.

Just as I am about to raid my closet for night clothes, the light comes on. "Ahem. Where were you little boy?" Says my maid.

I scratch the back of my head looking for an answer to cheat her. "Uhm, I uhm, went swimming?" I say.

She folds her arms and cocks an eyebrow at me before breaking into a laugh. "You? Swim? You wouldn't even know how to hold a floater if yah had one boy. And you can drop the accent now. You are as much a native as your father." She says.

I look at her in protest but she puts up a finger as if saying she will tell my mother. "Alright alright. I just had a rough day okay? It is not all the time a young lad comes across a feisty commoner." I answer.

She scoffs and leaves the room.

Diablo licks my face to wake me up. "Of all the things yah thought it was to cover me face in slimy saliva eh boy?" I ask scratching his ears.

Father then walks into the stable and clears his voice. I look up at him and smile. "Goodmorning pa. How is your side?" I ask.

"Fine my little sweet pea. Just fine. Though I heard what you told the young boy. That was very bold." He says.

I smile at him even wider but his expression remains grim. "What is it pa?" I ask.

"The lad is the cousin of the princess sweet pea. That means we have to leave as soon as possible." He starts. Before I can say anything, he stops me and adds, " sometimes being bold costs us our heads. Look, I took some supplies from the lady nurse. I am set to recover in the coming week. Get diablo and lets go."

I sigh sadly as I gather up my belongings. The people here had become so nice and warm to us. Now we had to leave because of me.

This time, papa holds down diablo while I climb him and he climbs behind him. He then kicks him forward and we ride off to our new uknown destination.

"Next time lass, careful who you sass." Father says as we ride on.

"Sorry pa. I was only defending diablo." I answer.

"Say, why do you love this horse so much lass?" He asks.

"Because he is my second best pal alongside my pa." I answer chirpily.

He scoffs and slows diablo to slow gallops as we approach a barn. An empty barn to be precise.

Father gets off the horse and leads us to the barn cautiously as he inspects the outside first before smiling at me to let me know that it is safe.

After closing the barn doors, he gets me off the horse and sets me down next to some hay. From that moment, I felt like this was going to be a very long week for us.
