Chapter 26: Elian

I get up and give a stretch. Last night was as exuberant as usual. I look over to my left; Luci isn't here. She must've gone to work. I stand and use the nightstand to steady myself. I'm tired and a little sore. I may have gone to sleep four or three hours ago. Nothing a hot shower won't fix.

Ah...much better. I go downstairs and make breakfast for myself and my daughter. I grab her plate and walk upstairs to her room. I knock and open the door. The room is dark and she's tucked away under her blanket. "Good morning Julieta dear." I put the breakfast on her nightstand, open the blinds, and sit next to her. "Julieta?"

She pulls the blankets down, revealing her puffy face. She's still upset. "Why are we still here?", she whines.

I rub her hair, "You know Mommy has some work to do here. Pretty soon she'll be finished though and we'll go back home."

She rolls over and I hear a sob choke out. "I just want to go home. I came all the way here to get publicly rejected. It hurts...I want to go back to my friends. No one knows me here and no one likes me besides the fanatics.", she cries harder, "I just want to go home Mama."

"Soon baby.", I kiss her forehead. My poor baby is heartbroken. Seems like she has the same luck in relationships as I did. I go back downstairs, grab my breakfast, and cop a squat on the couch to watch some TV.

We interrupt your scheduled program for a few words from three descendants!

I choke on my egg. What's going on? Renee, Cassy, and Kaideen are on TV. They're sitting on a couch like it's some talk show.

Black triangular pupils, silver borders between her pupils and cloudy gray iris, and the silver border between the iris and white of eye. Extraordinary to say the least but not as extraordinary as Renee's.

Hey! I'm Renee Sapphire Ba! Here's my proof. Renee removes her contacts to reveal her true eyes, dark as night besides her pupil which is pure white. And this is our lovely daughter...

Uh... hi haha. I'm Kaideen Ba Pierce. If you don't believe me, that's fine. I'm not on record. Oh but I'll show my eyes because my girl hasn't seen them. There's an off camera giggle, from Hailey I presume. Kaideen takes out her contacts revealing a flavorful mix of Cassy and Renee's.

Cassy: Now there have been quite a few rumors about our disappearance...

Renee: Like we were abducted by aliens. They laugh.

Cassy: The truth is... I have a deformity that I've been hiding my whole life. My mothers didn't know because I was in the care of my private doctor for the first ten years of my life. She taught me that if my secret ever got out I'd be executed. When I was at the academy I attended the bachelorette party of my best friend at the time, she's also a descendant, and she discovered my secret. That is... I have a penis. My best friend saw me in the same way that you are probably looking at me right now... as a monster. After narrowly escaping unharmed I ran away from the academy. Soldiers came after me and I was under the impression that the other descendants had agreed to wipe me out, that they knew. When I was out trying to not get blown up by a stray bomb I found out that Renee, my lover, was carrying my child and took her from the academy. It wouldn't be safer for her to be there anymore. Afterwards the soldiers stopped coming, we went into hiding, and the world kept spinning. There were no news reports about trying to catch me. Just that we were missing. Today I wanted to make a correction. Anyways, I'm calling the descendants down here to make a proper decision in regards to this matter.

Renee: We're in the town right here. Renee holds up an HDS and shows the location. The town that the Diaz family currently resides in.

Kaideen: Bye! The station turns back to it's regular program.

...soon...we'll go home even sooner this way. Luci won't have to obsess over this anymore. I did make the right decision after all. I take a whiff of the sweet scent of my candle. Mmm...
