(Zeb pov)

"Kanan, I don't understand. We have the chance to go back and change history. You can't tell me that you don't want to do that. But yet you're saying that we can't?!"

I stop, flatten myself against the wall beside the room I was about to enter, and will my ears to pick up Kanan quiet reply.

"Ezra, we can't alter time. It will change everything, maybe even create an alternate timeline! It's too dangerous," I can picture Kanan shaking his head.

"So you want to pass up the chance to prevent the Empire from ever existing?!" Ezra's tone is furious. "We could save thousands, millions of lives! Maybe even my parents!"

"Ezra, the Force does everything for a reason. We can't interfere with it's will. You don't know how much I want to change the events of history, to let Master Yoda know about the Chancellor's true intentions.... But we CAN'T. Do you understand?"

Silence for a moment, than Ezra speaks quietly, almost meekly. "How could the Force ever want a tyranny to rule our galaxy?"

"I don't know, kiddo. I really don't. But what do we have to do with the Force?"

"Trust in it."

"Exactly."

"Even if it means letting thousands of people die?"

"We save as many as possible in our timeline."

"But not all of them."

"Sacrifices have to be made. You of all people should understand that, Ezra."

The room falls deathly silent and I'm worried that Kanan will hear my heavy breathing and realize I was eavesdropping on their conversation.

"You're right," Ezra finally says. "We can't interfere with the will of the Force. I'm sorry."

"It's alright, Ez. Now let's go get ready to leave."

Walking as lightly as possible so that the two Jedi won't hear me, I quickly turn and sprint back the way I came so that I won't be caught by Kanan.

But knowing the blasted Jedi, he probably sensed me anyway.
