Chapter 26

This is the last chapter, excluding the epilogue! -LRUF

(Kanan pov)

"Ready, everyone?" I ask, my hand hovering over the switch to open the cargo bay of the Republic cruiser we're on.

Everyone nods. After saying thank you and goodbye to Anakin and young Ahsoka, who remain on the bridge of the cruiser in case something goes wrong, we all made our way to the cargo bay, where we will eject into space with no special gear, no air supply, and that stupid rainbow Kyber crystal.

"Remember, we have to all touch the crystal at the same time, when we're almost completely out of air. I'm sure you'll feel it when you're ready."

"Kanan, we know. Let's go," Sabine insists.

"Alright, alright. Three–"

The entire crew braces themselves and grasps the hand of someone else. We'll eject in a line, so that it's easier to touch the crystal in sync.

"Two–"

Ezra's cobalt eyes shut in fear and open in courage.

"One–"

My hand moves.

"Now!"

My hand presses the button and everyone launches themselves into the air as the cargo bay opens. Immediately, we're all sucked out into the freezing abyss of space. Immediately my body goes numb and my teeth want to chatter. We all hold our breath as we form a floating circle.

It only takes about fifteen seconds before my lungs cry for air. I look around and see looks of desperation on my other crew members' faces. I forgot that I can hold my breath longer than all of them because of my Jedi training.

I nod at them and everyone reaches for the crystal in Ezra's hand.

I use my other hand to count down. Three.... Two.... One.... Now!

My hand touches the smooth surface of the Kyber crystal.

A flash of pure white light blinds me and I close in my eyes in fear as my body screams for air.

When the bright light fades, I open my eyes gingerly.

Deep air fills my lungs and I collapse on the floor of the Ghost's cabin, exhausted and drained, my entire crew surrounding me doing the exact same thing.
