As the car continues to speed down the highway, Sam sits in the passenger seat with her nose stuck in a book; files either on her lap or around on the seat next to her. Dean slightly bobs his head to the music while tapping his fingers on the steering wheel with Sam slightly bobbing her head as well.
"You know, I was thinking." Dean finally breaks the comfortable silence.
"That's dangerous," Sam comments and flips the page in her book, barely paying attention to him.
"I don't know anything about you from when you were little, before we met at school that is." Dean comments, causing Sam to stiffen up as the images of the pictures come back into her mind from before. "And I know you said something about not remembering your past but I think you deserve to know about mine."
"Why are you saying this now?" Sam questions while raising her eyebrows. "I mean, what's brought this on now?"
"Well, it's a long car trip and one can only listen to this CD on repeat for so long." Dean chuckles.
"Oh," Sam mutters. "So, uh....where are you going to start?"
"The beginning, where else?" Dean sarcastically rolls his eyes.
"Um, alright. Go ahead." Sam sighs and flips the page of her book for the second time.
"Well, I discovered my abilities at a young age." Dean sighs. "I don't know how but someone just ticked me off and boom! It just happened."
"You never really have told me about your abilities." Sam mumbles. "You want to get into it more?"
"No." Dean shakes his head. "I don't think you're ready."
"You don't think I'm ready? Pretty sure we've got the same problem here." Sam sarcastically comments.
"It's just...we're both different." Dean shrugs. "And if we're not comfortable talking to ourselves about what's going on inside, how will we be able to tell each other?"
"I don't know." Sam sighs. "I just thought that we'd be able to...I don't know, get through the barriers."
"What is this? Twilight?" Dean laughs.
"No, it's just hard to explain," Sam replies and flips another page in her book, this time with more force than before. "That's it."
"Oh, so now you're getting mad?" Dean demands. "I try and share something important to me and you get all-"
"That's the thing! You didn't share something that I already don't know. I get that it's important but I can already tell that you're going into that same sob story you use every time!" Sam interrupts.
"I am not!" Dean defensively whines.
"I bet you are, was it something like this?" Sam taps her chin before continuing. "After that, I was kidnapped by an organization that I'm not going to tell you about because 'you aren't ready' and then I met you afterward. Alone in an alley way but that's all I'm going into it because 'you aren't ready'. Though you only remember school because you hit your head and I'm not going to get into it because you're not ready."
"Okay, so maybe you have an idea of what I'm going to say," Dean mutters.
"Of course I do! You say it every damn time." Sam scoffs and finally closes her book in anger.
"Well, I'm sorry if I'm trying to protect you from all the pain-"
"That's the thing!" Sam interrupts again. "You aren't, you're causing more because I don't know anything about myself. I know nothing!"
"And maybe that's a good thing," Dean mumbles in anger, his knuckles turning white because he had been holding the steering wheel tighter and tighter by the second.
"That's not your decision," Sam grumbles while crossing her arms. "You aren't my father."
"Yeah, but I was sent-" Dean quickly cuts himself off and clears his throat as Sam turns her head slowly to look at him in anger.
"What did you say?" She demands.
"I didn't say anything." Dean mumbles.
"Excuse me? You sure as hell were about to say something." Sam states while turning in her seat to face him.
"Have you been unbuckled this whole time?!" Dean yells. "What the hell have I told you about-"
"Does it look like I give two shits about a seat belt right now?!" Sam screams.
"You should," Dean grumbles.
"What were you going to say?" Sam angrily demands. "Because I sure as hell have a right to know."
"You don't even know what it was about!" Dean says.
"I can guess that it has to do with me!" Sam shouts back.
"Well, you should stop because it doesn't. It's no big deal." Dean shakes his head.
"Then why is it such a big problem to tell me?" Sam demands while turning away from him to look outside.
"Because you don't need to know, you just have to trust me that I'll tell you stuff you need to know." Dean states.
"What the hell," Sam mutters in anger, tensing and untensing her shoulders to keep her from snapping at him again. Sam stares out the window at the world that passed them by, something shiny and circular passes them and Sam would've almost missed it if she hadn't been looking close enough. "STOP THE CAR!"
"What?!" Dean screams while slamming his foot on the breaks, Sam ignores him and climbs out of the car. Quickly, she rushes over to the object that was half buried in the dirt and sand on the side of the road and gasps.
"Oh my god." She whispers.
"What...is that?" Dean questions.
"Yeah, it's Captain America's shield."
