One Year Later

Sam slowly walks down the halls of the base, her long blonde hair swaying with each step and her nose deep inside a book. She barely paid any attention to where she was walking but she sure knew that she'd better get the kitchen soon or her dad would probably be upset once again.

"Sam? What are you doing?" Jean questions which ultimately breaks her concentration. Sam pushes up her glasses and stares at Jean over the top of her novel.

"Reading? Have you ever tried it?" Sam sarcastically questions.

Jean rolls her eyes with a sigh. "No need to be salty. Steve's waiting near the medical bay."

"That's the opposite side of where I'm going." Sam groans while dropping the book down by her thighs. "And it's so far!"

"You walk to the elevator that's right there and walk a few doors down to the right," Jean replies with a unamused expression.

"You're so rude sometimes." Sam shakes her head. "It was a joke."

"Yeah, a not funny one." Jean rolls her eyes. Sam sighs and places her bookmark between the pages before closing it and letting the book fall back down by her thighs.

"I'm going to go now, alright?" Sam finally announces. "I'm tired and want to get this over will, very soon."

"Good luck," Jean mutters while walking away. Sam smiles and walks into the elevator, the doors automatically closed behind her. Maybe it was seconds later when she finally stepped out onto the floor where Jean had told her that her father was waiting.

Sure enough, Steve was standing in the lab with Tony and Bruce. Each of them looking at a computer that sat on the silver table between Steve and Tony. Sam quietly opens the door and steps into the room, shutting it without a sound behind her. Slowly, Sam walks over to them and stands next to her father.

"Hey, guys!" She greets. "Why have I been summoned?"

"Well, Logan and Charles are on a mission for starters." Tony mumbles. "But look at this."

"I don't want to." Sam quickly states while backing away from the table. Her eyes looking away from the monitor that showed Dean being held against his will inside a cryofreeze.

"Sam." Bruce sighs while taking off his glasses, setting them on the table with a sigh. "Something's happening. You were with him for a while and we need to know if this is what he looked like at any period."

Sam sighs and closes her eyes as she turns her head back to where the monitor had been. Finally, she opens her eyes to stare at the screen. Black lines cover his body and pulse even though he isn't even awake and it causes Sam to almost hurl.

"No." She shakes her head. "Never saw anything like it. I've told you time and time again that I've never seen this before nor had I known about it ever."

"Okay, Tony. Enough." Steve states while turning the monitor away just as Sam turned away from them all.

"We're just trying to figure this out. It's...not normal." Tony states while shaking his head.

"He was dead and I brought him back." Sam hisses without turning around. "He's got lines all over his body that caused an explosion! All of it isn't normal."

"Sam." Steve slowly states after a few seconds of silence. "How about we all uh...all go upstairs and forget about this for a little bit? I mean...you haven't seen the Star War's movies right? So we can start to watch that with everyone."

"Nah," Sam shakes her head and finally turns again to face the group. "I was going to catch up on some reading and then go back to sleep. I haven't been able to do that in a few days....so I should probably catch up. How about tomorrow?"

"Yeah, sounds good." Steve smiles. "You want to get something to eat?"

"Already ate." Sam lies while walking out of the room. "Sorry. See you tomorrow?"

"Yeah." Steve nods before Sam finally disappears down the hall and to the elevator.

"She does realize that it's noon right?" Tony questions while looking down at the monitor.

"Probably not." Steve sighs. "But I'll let her have her time."

"It's been a year, Steve." Bruce shakes his head. "I get that she doesn't know what happened and that it's scary but she's got to....I don't want to say let it go but-"

"Yes he does." Tony interrupts. "We all do."

"Tony, would you be saying the same thing if this was Pepper?" Steve questions.

"Well....no." Tony shakes his head. "Never mind."

"I'll let her have her time, we'll talk later."
