Jefflyn - Love Is A Strong Word

Chapter Three

Travis' POV

I hear her breathing start to even, and sigh in relief. She's one of the first people besides my mom that I've ever met. I tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear, and slide my knife back into my pocket. I feel her arm, and she's still freezing.

Quickly taking off my shirt, I put it over her own clothes. I look up, and see my backpack still sitting in one of the trees. "Thank goodness..." I mumble, carefully leaning her against the tree. I climb up the tree, and hear many more growls. The wolves surround the girl, and I pull the gun out of my pocket. I shoot, and it hits one of them in the side.

Grabbing onto my backpack, I jump down from the tree. I pull the two knives out from my bag, and run towards them. I stab one of them in the side, and it falls over, limp. The last one walks closer to the girl, and I throw my last knife at it.

And it misses.

Jeffory's POV

I awaken with a start, my body covered with sweat. My heart is racing, and I taste blood in my mouth. That didn't feel like a dream. I grab the bin next to my bed, and spit the blood into it. Before I can think about what I dreamt, my eyes close quickly.

I'm pulled off of the girl quickly, and the boy attempts to shoot me, but no ammo is in his gun. I dig my teeth into his arm, and I see his eyes turn a dark red. He quietly winces, and I see him look me in the eyes. The veins in his eyes are purple, and he stands up. He kicks me in the side, and I hit into a tree, my side hurting. He runs up to me, and picks me up, throwing me into another tree. I lay there, my whole body feeling sore, and his eyes turn green again. I turn towards the girl one last time, and I see a glimpse of light blue.

Once again awakening with a start, I realize that the girl was Katelyn. Was that real? It felt so vivid. I get up from my bed, and quickly put my shoes on. I grab the keys from off of my table, and run outside. "That- that can't be real." I try to tell myself as I attempt to turn on my car, but nothing happens. "Dangit!!" I yell, my hands shaking. I just sit in my car, my breathing uneven. Before I try to turn on my car again, my dad walks outside. He opens the car door, and gives me a quizzical look.

"Why the heck are you trying to go somewhere at one in the morning?!" He yells at me, taking the keys from my hand. "I-I..." I try to say, lost for words. "Get inside." He says, and I just stay planted in my seat. "I said get inside Jeffory." He says roughly, and for once I don't wince at his harsh tone. "I could care less if you're my dad right now, I need to see if Katelyn's okay!!" I yell at him for the first time ever, and his nose twitches.

He hands me the keys, and finally my car turns on. I drive away, and he just watches me with a blank looking expression. After about a seven minute drive, I pull into the exact same place I was just this evening. I quickly get out of my car, and look around. Emptiness, only the sounds of the wind and rain. I run my hand through my hair, and I just stand there. It felt so real, it had to have been real.

I pull out a flashlight, and point it towards the ground. I see footprints leading in a different, and I follow them. I don't care if she hates me at the moment, I just need to know if she's okay. I mean, you care about the one's you love... right?

Unknown's POV

I watch as the wolf bites the man, and I get disgusted by the sight. I grab my sword from off the ground, and run towards the wolf. I knock it off of the man, and hit it a couple of times, quickly killing it. The man falls to his knees, grabbing onto his neck.

His hair turns dark gray, and I quickly grab onto his arm. "We need to get you some medical help." I tell him, and he shakes his head while pointing off into the distance. I turn my head to where he's pointing, and a girl is laying on the ground, blood staining her clothes. I help him stand up, and I pick up the girl while leaving my sword on the ground.

"Need to save- h-her." He somehow manages to say. I nod, and see a light off into the distance. I quickly walk towards it, the injured man right behind me. "Katelyn?" I hear someone ask in the distance, and I run towards the voice. I get closer and closer, and quickly look behind me. The injured man is gone. "No, no, no!" I mumble, shaking my head as I walk closer to the light.

I accidentally drop something out of my pocket, and the guy with the flashlight turns towards me. "Hello?" He asks fearlessly, and I walk towards him. "I need help." Is all I say, and he looks at the girl in my arms, and his face pales. "K-Katelyn?!" He yells, and he looks me in the eyes. "It was real..." I hear him mumble, and I just give him a questioned look.

"Here, hold onto her. Try to cover her wounds. I'm going to go find someone." I tell him, and he just stands there, shocked. "Oh yeah, the name's Gene."

Travis' POV

"I thought we had a deal." I spit at him. and he chuckles. "Travis... We've known each other for a while now, you know my problem." He says, leaning on his sword. "Besides, you don't even know that girls' name yet. She's the one with all the answers I need." He tells me, and I suddenly get mad at myself for not asking what her name was.

I don't even know if I'll ever see her again. "Oh... You will see her again. You're in love with her, right? Kind of weird though, falling in love with the first person you've ever met besides me and your parents." He says, shaking his head. "Yeah, like your one love story you told me when we were younger." I mumble, and he smirks.

"I tend to fall in love with people that don't want to chop my head off the first time they look me in the eyes." He says, laughing a little bit. "You're welcome for healing your wounds by the way, we should talk more often." He says, and I try my hardest not to roll my eyes. "I'd enjoy that, but... It kinda sucks that every time I look you in the eyes, I see your father killing my mother." I tell him, and he just stays quiet.

"Well I'm not my father, Travis." He points out, and I nod. "I know Aaron, it's just... You look a lot like him." Is all I say before I see a small glimpse of red in his eyes.
