「 FRATERNIZING WITH THE ENEMY 」

07 | What's his deal?

Today was Friday and I could wait to get the day over with.

I saw Logan around the halls a few times but every time I smiled or acknowledged him he would turn the other way leaving me confused and wondering if he was avoiding me.

My questions were answered when I was sitting in English after handing in the assignment I finished that Logan and I were supposed to do together when he walked in looking all broody as usual. I could feel his purposely avert my gaze and when I expected him to sit down into the spare seat next to me he went and sat on the other side of the classroom. Logan was in fact avoiding me.

At the end of the day they called a cheerleading meet after school Monique requested because she needed to get uniforms fitted.

I was actually really excited to go home and sleep after a long week but duty calls.

Mia and I walked to the field during lunch where Monique already had girls lined up looking like soldiers.

"Mia! Get over here!" she yelled, standing next to two other girls in their uniforms who looked like the definition of plastics.

Mia walked next to Monique but not before giving me a smile as I stood in the last line.

They were calling girls one by one to collect their uniforms, which they were supposed to wear with pride and etcetera.

Monique brought girls in one by one to pick out a uniform that fits.

"Look at him, he is basically the definition of dreamy" Mia said with a long sigh,

I looked over to where she was pointing and I saw Logan in a huddle with his football teammates, taking a break after practice.

I nodded absentmindedly before looking at the rest of the huddle and saw Chase waving at us with a large grin.

Did anyone else hear that record scratch?

I smiled back as Mia waved back franticly and I pulled her arm down.

"Be cool" I whispered harshly at her, he nodded and stuck the most unnatural pose I had ever seen.

This girl.

After everyone, including me, got their uniforms fitted we did some practice before we were dismissed.

Mia and I decided to wait for Chase before leaving but the football practice was still going on so we sat at the bleachers waiting for him.

After a few minutes of watching them practice Mia thought it would be a great idea to run on the track while they practiced on the field, mostly so she could spy on Chase.

I rolled my eyes as she dragged me and we jogged on the track.

"So how operation Mase going to go down?" she asked hesitantly,

"That I still have to figure out" I responded giving her a sheepish smile and she rolled her eyes at me.

"Of course you do, so much for 'Cupid's Assistant,'" she mocked.

"Hey they do call me that!" I defended,

As we jogged I caught Logan's eye when we looked at each other,

I gave him a small smile which he completely ignored, making me frown.

What's his deal?

He whispered something to four other guys who I noticed were Valentino, Will, Ethan and Grayson and when they looked at me they gave me tight smiles before turning back around and throwing the football around again.

"Hello!" Mia called snapping her fingers in front of me "Earth to Alex, are you there Alex?"

"Huh?" I made a very unladylike sound, to which Mia smirked at,

"Too busy looking at the man candy?"

"Shut up"

She laughed before saying "I'm going to go to the car"

"Yeah, I'll meet you there" I smiled at her while she walked to the parking lot.

I waited for most of the players to leave including Chase until it was just Logan, Valentino, Grayson, Will and Ethan left.

"Is something wrong?" I asked them when I was in hearing range,

"Uhhh" the four boys standing behind Logan spoke but I silenced them,

"Well?" I asked impatiently,

"It's complicated" Logan said finally, a sharp edge to his tone that wasn't usually there.

"Well you and your complicated..ness can take it somewhere else" I scolded sounding like a child who's just been denied candy rather than the determined tone I hoped for, "I don't know what has gotten into you five so I suggest you pull those sticks out of your asses, I thought we had fun yesterday?" I frowned looking at all of them.

Suddenly my phone began to ring and I looked at the caller ID,

"Our conversation is not over" I told them before answering the call,

"Chase wants food so hurry up or we're not buying you any" Mia stated simply through the phone, in the background I could hear Chase naming all the possibilities that made my mouth water.

"Alright Mia, tell Chase to hold tight I'll be there soon" I replied before hanging up and faced the issue at hand.

I was about to say something before Logan cut me off,

"That's why, Hunter" he spat my last name with such hatred it made me take a step back.

Mia and Chase? What had they ever done to him? My brother's warning rang in my head again and I realised it must've been an issue with their whole gang.

Logan walked to the boy's locker rooms, Grayson, Will and Ethan gave me apologetic smiles before leaving,

"You don't want to get involved in this, trust me," Valentino said with a sad smile before following after them.

Leaving me in the middle of the field all alone, staring at their retreating figures wondering what the hell just happened.
