"Alright, class, settle down." Mr. Samson announced as he turned off the TV. The class quickly quieted. "Of course, as a district requirement, we have to send home a few papers that your parents need to sign. Please bring these back by next Friday."
He quickly passed out the usual field trip papers: a medical form, a permission slip, and a schedule of the entire week in space.
Then, he grabbed a key ring from his desk, selected a key, and unlocked a locked drawer in his desk. He pulled out about 30 envelopes, each of them with the words, "For Parents' Eyes Only!" written on the front.
He held one up and showed it to the class. The whole class was a bit confused by it. "This also needs to be brought back by next Friday. As it says on the front, you students are not, and I repeat, ARE NOT, allowed to read any of the information disclosed on the papers in this envelope. This is supposed to go directly to your parents, then directly back to me! If you do read any of the information inside, you will immediately be expelled from Cactus Middle School and you will not be permitted to attend any school in Scottsdale ever again."
Students gasped and murmured to each other. Adam just sat, confused and surprised. He could hear his friends chattering next to him, asking each other what could possibly be in that envelope. He waited for Mr. Samson to continue.
"Class!" Mr. Samson shouted, more aggressive and serious this time. The students quickly hushed. "Now, some of you might think that you can get away with reading it and not get caught. But trust me when I say that you will be caught. We can tell if you know the information in that envelope. Trust me."
Adam could barely move. He was frozen with a chilling fear. Why did an exciting trip to space suddenly turn so serious and frightening?
Mr. Samson then smiled and chuckled. "Why do you all look so scared? I'm just teasing. Well, I wasn't joking about the being expelled thing, but I'm not some creepy stalker! I have no way of telling if you know, because I don't even know what's on it myself! But, there are people who will find out if you read that because they know what's on it, so I greatly encourage all of you not to. They just told me to try to scare you."
Who are "they?"
"Am I clear on my instructions, class?" He asked. Then he added, "And I apologize if I scared the crap out of you. It was just what I was told to do. I kinda regret doing it now."
The class finally smiled, all but Adam. "Yes, I understand." everyone but Adam stated. Adam still sat in silence.
"Adam?" Mr. Samson noticed he didn't speak with the class.
Adam sighed, "Yes, Mr. Samson. I read you loud and clear." Then Mr. Samson proceeded to pass out the envelopes.
But still he wondered, with a terrible feeling in his gut. He felt that something was wrong. Something isn't right with this, he thought. What is in that envelope?
A/N: Wow! This has gotten popular very quickly! I'm actually very happy! This encourages me to want to write more, so thank you all very much for all of your views, lovely comments, and votes! The next chapter will be out soon, so stay tuned! Oh, and if you have any predictions of what might be in that envelope, you are welcome to take a guess at what it is in the comments! However, I will not tell you if it is right or wrong, but I can tell you what I think of your prediction! Also, if I have already told you what happens at the end of the story, please do not comment what it is, as I don't want it to be spoiled for others! Thanks again, and see you soon!
