It was the night before the launch, and all the students in Mr. Samson's class could barely contain their excitement, especially Adam and his friends. Even Triston, the one kid who could care less about something as exciting as this, looked excited!

Carmen was a bit jealous of her new friends that she's had for only about a month. They would get to go on this trip, and she would have to stay behind. But she kept reminding herself that every single student would eventually get to go... She would just have to wait her turn.

She also didn't like the fact that her friends, especially Adam, were going to be away, with no way to contact her, for an entire week. It sucked, but she would have to suck it up. Besides, they were only going away for a week! It's not like Adam and his friends were leaving her forever!

It was evening, and Adam hurried to finish packing before tomorrow. The class would meet at the launch station at 8:30 AM tomorrow morning, and that's where the trip would begin. Adam read the schedule again, which went as follows:

Day One: Launch at 8:30 AM, check into space hotel
Day Two: Gravity room
Day Three: Planets between sun and meteor belt
Day Four: Meteor belt
Day Five: Planets beyond meteor belt
Day Six: Picnic under the stars and constellations
Day Seven: Return home, parent pick up at 5 PM

He smiled and put the schedule back in his backpack. He then proceeded to pack all of his necessities into a small suitcase. Among these was clothing, a hairbrush, a toothbrush, toothpaste, electronic devices, and their matching chargers.

Then, he placed a framed photograph of him and his parents delicately on top of his suitcase. He always did this, because it always hurt him to be apart from them, even though it was always for a short amount of time.

Adam took his phone out of his pocket and called all of his guy friends at once because he wanted to see how they were doing with their packing.

"Hey Adam!" they all greeted in unison.

"Hey guys!" Adam smiled. "How's packing going?"

"Oh I finished two days ago!" Mark said.

    "You would." Ryan mumbled.

"Ryan! Shut up!" Mark laughed. "How about you, Landon?"

"Oh, I'm just finishing up." he replied.

    "Same here." Adam added.

"You guys are done?! I haven't even started!" Ryan gasped.

"Well, you better get packing, because we're leaving first thing in the morning!" Landon responded with optimism, mimicking an adult figure's voice.

They all laughed, and said goodbye with a, "See you tomorrow!" Then they all hung up and continued packing.

When Adam was done, it was pretty late. He turned off the light in his bedroom and climbed under the covers.

He couldn't fall asleep; he stayed awake for hours as he lay on his back, staring at the dark ceiling above. He could barely contain his excitement, so much so that sleep seemed so far out of reach. He would be one of the first students to ever go on this field trip. That was something he could hardly wait for. He felt like he would never close his eyes and dream. He felt as though he would stay awake all night. However, because Adam started to eventually feel tired, he finally drifted off to sleep.
