Dawnstar walked through the forest, glancing up towards the trees.
She had chosen to go on the dusk patrol and had just returned.
Before she announced that it was time to leave, she had decided to go on a walk near the Darkclan border.
Looking into the shadows, Dawnstar saw movement and unsheathed her claws.
“Who’s there?”
The movement stopped and Dawnstar could hear heavy breathing.
“Come down here!”
Another movement further down the tree caught Dawnstar’s eye.
“I said come down here!”
Suddenly, a large crack sounded from above and Dawnstar watched a large branch fall from the tree.
A yowl came next.
Dawnstar’s mouth gaped wide open when she saw who yowled.
Breezestar was falling with the branch. Dawnstar tried moving out of the way but fell.
She gasped sharply as pain shot through her leg. Dawnstar opened her eyes and looked down towards the spot she saw Breezestar falling.
“Breezestar, are you okay?”
Dawnstar perked her ears when she didn’t hear a reply.
“Are you okay? I can’t move my leg.” Dawnstar meowed, noticing that her leg was stuck under the large oak branch.
She shivered as a cold night breeze chilled her skin. Dawnstar perked her ears again when she heard a hoarse gasp.
“Breezestar, is that you?”
“Yes, are you okay Dawnstar?”
Dawnstar shook her head, not knowing if Breezestar could see her.
“I’m stuck under the large branch. Are you injured?”
Dawnstar listened for a response but only heard Breezestar wheezing.
After a few moments, Breezestar finally replied to the worried she-cat.
“I think so. Part of the branch fell on me when I landed, but I was able to crawl away from it.”
Dawnstar flicked her ear irritably and glanced down at her leg.
“I think my leg was dislocated in the fall.”
Dawnstar lifted her head and let out a wail.
Breezestar flattened his ears and glanced across the branch.
“Are you scared you won’t be able to make it to the gathering?!” Breezestar hissed.
Dawnstar rolled her eyes and rotated her eyes toward the forest.
“No Breezestar, I’m trying to alert my clanmates that we’re in trouble.”
Breezestar sighed loudly and laid down.
“While you stand there wasting energy, I’ll be lying here quietly.”
Dawnstar snorted and continued to call out.
* * * * *
Thornpetal stared at the camp’s entrance, waiting for Dawnstar to return and announce the clan’s departure.
Nova padded towards the tortishell she-cat.
“Thornpetal, I’m sure Dawnstar’s fine, but we can’t delay any longer. You must take Fireclan to meet at Four Stones.”
