Thornpetal placed in the medicine den wearily. She and Copperfang helped Snowstorm carry back Dawnstar’s unconscious body back to camp the night before while Nightshade, Frostfang, and Honeydew all helped Fiercefang and Foxtail make it back to camp. No one knew how many lives she had lost or if she would ever wake up. Snowstorm padded into medicine den and growled.
“If you keep pacing you’ll either destroy all of my herbs with your tail or wake everyone up!” she snapped.
Thornpetal stared directly into Snowstorm’s blue eyes. Snowstorm backed away from the worried deputy and turned to Nightshade, who had been waiting patiently at the den’s entrance.
“You might as well come in. Maybe you can help calm down Thornpetal so she doesn’t wake Copperfang, Foxtail, or Fiercefang,” suggested Snowstorm.
Nightshade nodded and held his tail up. “Before you go to help Nova collect herbs, I wanted to ask you about Dawnstar.”
Snowstorm flinched and looked down at her paws. “I’m going to visit StarClan tonight so I can see if they have any answers if she still hasn’t woken up or shows any signs of doing so…” Snowstorm trailed off.
Fiercefang whimpered and opened his eyes as Snowstorm finished.
“Can I see her?” Fiercefang whispered.
Snowstorm nodded and pointed her tail toward the exit. “Follow me and be careful. Take your time Fiercefang. You took a beating from those Dark Forest cats.”
Fiercefang nodded and limped after Snowstorm. Thornpetal began to follow after the pair but stopped.
“I’ll watch them, don’t worry.” Nightshade meowed.
Thornpetal smiled and quickly trotted after Snowstorm and Fiercefang. She slowed as she entered Dawnstar’s den. She stopped when she saw Mistyrain sitting next to Dawnstar’s still body.
She looks peaceful. Like she’s finally happy for a long time, even though she’s barely breathing.
“Snowstorm! You won’t believe it!” Mistyrain exclaimed happily.
Snowstorm walked up to the silver tabby and cocked her head. “What? Did something happen to Dawnstar?!”
Mistyrain nodded and bounced on her paws. “Dawnstar woke up for a few moments before falling asleep. She’s recovered from her loss of lives. All she needs is rest now!” Mistyrain meowed loudly.
Snowstorm, Thornpetal, and Fiercefang all exchanged shocked looks. Mistyrain laughed and shoved everyone to the den’s entrance.
“She needs her rest. Dawnstar may be the strongest cat I know, but she still needs time to recover from her wounds. Physical and emotional,” Mistyrain whispered, her happiness draining as she finished.
Thornpetal, noticing the tabby’s attitude change, quickly changed the mood.
“Don't worry Mistyrain! When she wakes up, we’ll all be here for her!”
Mistyrain nodded and padded into the den. Thornpetal growled quietly when she saw cobwebs plastered to Dawnstar’s neck, muzzle, shoulders, and flank.
“I know she hates being seen like this so maybe don’t let too many cats in here,” Fiercefang whispered.
Snowstorm nodded in response and walked Fiercefang back to the medicine den. Thornpetal sat beside Dawnstar as Honeydew walked in. The golden she-cat nuzzled Dawnstar and smiled.
“I’m so proud of you. I know I’ll never be able to relate to you, but I hope that you come and talk to me when you need help,” whispered Honeydew.
