Dawnstar padded ahead of the group. Sighing, she kept her head and tail low in shame. Before she left, Fallenpaw had warned her of a coming battle.
Before the sun sets on the last moon of winter, a great struggle will emerge.
The words rung in Dawnstar’s head. Shaking her head, Dawnstar guiltily walked through the camp entrance.
Thornpetal rushed to her side as she tripped over a stone. Nightshade ran to her other side and defended Dawnstar from her yowling clanmates.
“Leave her alone!” he roared, his claws unsheathed and pelt prickling.
Dawnstar smiled at her father’s tone. “Thank you.” she whispered.
Nightshade nodded and cleared a path to the medicine den as Thornpetal continued to help her walk.
Laying down, Dawnstar flicked her ear in annoyance as Snowstorm, Nova, Fiercefang, and Mistyrain all ran toward her. Barely stopping, Fiercefang began a barrage of questions.
“Where have you been?! Why did you kill Breezestar?! Are you alright?!”
Thornpetal stepped toward the tabby tom and snarled. “Leave her be!”
Fiercefang stepped back and glared at the group. Mistyrain sat down beside Dawnstar and wrapped her tail around her paws.
“Don't worry Dawnstar. I'll stay with you for the day,” she purred.
Dawnstar nodded and rested her head between her paws. Snowstorm prodded Dawnstar and examined her wounds. Nova stood in front of the tabby and cocked her head.
“Snowstorm is messing with your injuries, the clan was yelling at you, and you haven't even flinched!”
Dawnstar growled and closed her eyes. “Guess it doesn't phase me after all I've been through.”
Nova rolled her eyes and grabbed a small pile of goldenrod.
“Here Snowstorm. Use this, cobwebs, and some dock to keep any infection at bay. I'm going to go bite Ambermoon’s tail off.”
Thornpetal gave Snowstorm a worried look and flicked her tail. Snowstorm nodded and Thornpetal padded toward Fiercefang, who was waiting at the den's entrance.
“Go make sure Nova doesn't kill her.”
Fiercefang let out a quick chuckle and quickly trotted off after the fox. Dawnstar hissed when Snowstorm nudged two poppy seeds toward her.
“I don’t want any.”
Snowstorm flicked tail tip irritably in response. “Dawnstar, I swear if you don’t cooperate. I’ll force these down your throat!”
Dawnstar gave the white she-cat a hard glare and slapped the seeds away. “I said I don’t want them!” she roared.
Snowstorm’s gaze lit up with fear and she bolted from the den. Dawnstar huffed and laid back down. Mistyrain looked at her mother, glaring.
“Why did you do that?! She’s just trying to help you!”
Dawnstar flicked her torn ear and closed her eyes, ignoring the question.
Mistyrain laid down beside the brown tabby she-cat and smiled, dispute her leader's rudeness.
“I’m sure that if you explain what’s been going on, your clanmates and the other clans would understand.”
Dawnstar opened her eyes slightly and sighed.
“I’m pretty sure that Ebonyclaw is going to try to kill me soon. I killed her mate out of cold blood. I’m a murderer.”
