Thornpetal’s eyes flew open to see Snowstorm and Nova standing in front of her.

“She saw me! She knows I was spying on her!” Thornpetal cried out.

Nova cocked her head at the saddened deputy. “Who saw you?”

Snowstorm turned her head around and stared at the fox.

“Dawnstar. Thornpetal tired to visit the Dark Forest to spy on Dawnstar. I'm guessing from your worried expression that that's who you're talking about.” Snowstorm meowed.

Thornpetal nodded and stood up, shaking. Snowstorm hissed when she saw the slash marks across Thornpetal’s pelt.

“If that's from Dawnstar, I'll make sure she receives an equal pay.” Snowstorm growled.

Mistyrain padded into the den behind Nova.

“Did you see her?” she whispered.

Thornpetal nodded slowly and sat back down.

“I did see Dawnstar, but not to long before she found me.”

Nova growled and padded out of the den, her tail swishing. Snowstorm sighed and glanced toward her niece.

“We need to find Dawnstar and confront her. That's the only way well get real answers.”

Thornpetal shook her head, causing the pair to look at her, confused.

“What's wrong?” Mistyrain meowed.

“I'll go by myself. I don't need Dawnstar getting angry and hurting anyone else. Besides, if this really is what the prophecy meant, it means that we must be very cautious around her.”

Snowstorm hissed at the deputy and unsheathed her claws. “I will not allow you to go alone. Take at least one other cat with you.”

Thornpetal nodded and flicked her ear.

“I’ll take Nightshade. I know for a fact that if she really is training with Suntail, she's going to be angry with him. That means that she'll come out sooner if he decided to become bait.”

Mistyrain gave Thornpetal a horrified look, her mouth gaping.

“I can't believe you're considering that! If you know that Nightshade could be hurt, why bring him?!” she yowled, her grey tail flicking.

Thornpetal shrugged and stars at the tabby.

“He's a logical choice. If Dawnstar is plotting against him, or at least to confront him, this could be her chance. I'll hide where she can't see me and then confront her when he's ready.”

Snowstorm looked down at her paws and then at Nightshade though the den’s entrance. “I don't like the idea of my father as bait, but if will bring Dawnstar back, then I'm up for it.” she meowed.

Thornpetal flicked her ears then padded out of the den, her tail just above the ground.

“Nightshade!” she yowled.

The senior tom turned around and padded toward Thornpetal.

“Yes?” Thornpetal sighed and flicked her tail tip

“I’m sure you remember what happened earlier. I need to discuss my plan to find and draw Dawnstar out.” Thornpetal whispered.

She made her way toward the camp’s exit, Nightshade following her. Once they made it to the lake, Thornpetal sat down and stared at the confused tom.

“So what can I do to help?”

Thornpetal looked at her paws nervously.

“Well, I need you to know that your life may be at risk here.”
