Suntail and Ambermoon looked up in disbelief.

“How is this possible?!” Ambermoon exclaimed.

“She should have lost a life!” yowled Suntail.

Ambermoon looked nervously up at Dawnstar, who was still staring down the cliff at them.

“We still have the advantage. Follow me!” meowed Suntail.

Suntail ran off into the trees, Ambermoon following behind. She hissed in annoyance as blood ran into her eyes, blocking her vision. Icegaze and Whitefang watched as the two warriors ran off. They glanced at each other and remained where they were. Foxtail smiled.

“That’s right! Dawnstar would never allow you to win, especially a traitor!” Foxtail meowed happily.

Darkshade hissed loudly and smacked his wounded shoulder.

“Quiet!”

Dawnstar turned around and faced Thornpetal and Copperfang.

“Quickly! I won’t let them escape!” Dawnstar hissed.

She pelted off toward the path that led down the plateau, ignoring the searing pain from her injuries. Copperfang leaned on Thornpetal, trying to keep up with the swift tabby. Dawnstar ran to the path and made her way down the steep, slippery stone. She gasped silently and halted as pain overwhelmed her neck. She stared at the ground below her and saw bloody pawsteps washing away with the rain.

“Dawnstar, are you sure you’re alright?” Copperfang asked softly.

Dawnstar nodded, the searing pain leaving.

Thornpetal glanced nervously down at Dawnstar. “You’re bleeding badly.”

Dawnstar whipped around, her eyes filled with determination, but also pain. “It doesn’t matter now! We’re losing daylight!”

Thornpetal nodded and followed after Dawnstar, who sped up to a run once more. Dawnstar stopped as the ground flattened out and the forest was closeby. She closed her eyes and tasted the air.

“Suntail and Ambermoon went that way,” Dawnstar meowed, pointing to the right with her tail,“and Darkshade, Icegaze, Whitefang, Fiercefang, and Foxtail are all ahead. They seemed to have moved recently. Can you two go and help them escape? I know you’re injured Copperfang, but you can defeat them if you really try!”

Copperfang nodded  in response and smiled. “We’ll free them and meet you back over here.”

Thornpetal flicked her ear and padded off toward her clanmates, Copperfang limping behind.

Dawnstar limped over to the treeline and fluffed out her fur.

I have to stop Suntail. I have to stop Ambermoon.

Dawnstar took a deep breath, and trotted swiftly into the unknown forest.

Dawnstar stopped at the sight of Suntail and Ambermoon facing away from her. She took a paw step forward, purposefully stepping on a dry stick. Suntail turned around while Ambermoon did the same.

“So, you’re alive. Barely,” Suntail meowed intensely.

Dawnstar’s eyes hardened and she glared at the orange and white she-cat.

“Nothing to say? What about to her?” Suntail said slyly.

Dawnstar’s gaze shifted to Ambermoon.
