Everly didn't know how much time had passed since she told Sam and Katherine how to cleanse her of her dark curse. She sat on the nearest bench with a bored look on her face as they continued to brainstorm. They went through everyone they'd met since coming to Storybrooke, but the Jones girl shut all their ideas down. Despite how confident Sam and Katherine were with their choices, Everly always had a reason for why it wouldn't work. There was no one left in the work that she loved who had a heart as pure as hers. There was no one left that could save her.

It wasn't long after Everly explained that Mary Margaret and David shared a slightly dark heart when Katherine let out a long sigh. "I can't think of anyone else. Everyone who could have done it either has a heart that's too dark or has moved on."

"That's what I've been trying to tell you," the Jones girl scoffed while leaning back on the bench and crossing her arms over her chest.

Her words caused Sam to roll his eyes before he looked to the ground. The Scott girl watched him think until she realized just how late it was becoming. She soon placed her hand on his arm, drawing his attention toward her. "The dance starts soon. We don't need everyone wondering where we are."

Everly tuned out the rest of their conversation as she stared out at the water. The sound of the distant waves brought a sense of peace to her, something she hadn't felt since coming back to Storybrooke. The Jones girl couldn't help but think back to the time it brought her so much happiness. But that soon faded when she remembered there was no one left to save her from her curse. She was going to be surrounded by darkness for the rest of her life.

While they continued to talk about what they should do, Sam's attention moved to Everly. He was surprised to see how at peace she looked just by listening to the ocean. It reminded him of how she was before her heart turned dark. And it made him even more determined to get his sister back to how she was.

"You go back to Granny's and get ready for the dance," the Jones boy told Katherine, who gave him a confused look. It wasn't long after that when his voice became a whisper. "Stall Killian as much as possible if he asks any questions. I'll catch up."

The Scott girl hesitated for a moment before finally nodding in response. After placing a kiss on Sam's cheek, Katherine begins her journey back to town. She was determined to buy as much time as the Jones boy needed. But she also knew how inquisitive Killian could get when it came to them. As soon as she was out of sight, Sam turned his attention back to Everly. She was surprised when she found a small smile on his face. She was even more surprised when she found herself returning it. It wasn't long after that when he sat down on the bench next to her.
