Little Johnny was in class and the teacher announced that they were going to try something to help their spelling AND help to get to know each other better. Miss Andrews told the class "I want you to stand up one by one and give us the occupation of one of your family members. Then spell it and say what they would give us if they were here. Marcy went first. "My mother is a banker. B-A-N-K-E-R. And she would give us all a shiny new penny." "Very good Marcy. Kevin, you can go next." "My uncle is a baker. B-A-K-E-R. And is he were here today, he would give us all a nice warm chocolate chip cookie." The class' family had all sorts of jobs. Sisters as police, with a toy police whistle. Brothers as doctors, with a plaster. Cousins as supermarket cashier, with a food of your choice. Aunts as inventors, with inventing the toy of your dreams. Grandparents as pet store owners, a beware of the pet sign. Fathers as lawyers, a shiny badge with the court logo, even scales, on it. But next, Jeff was up. My mother is an accountant. A-C-K...? no wait... A-K..?" But before he could have another attempt Miss Andrews to,d him to sit down and think. It was Little Johnny's turn next. "My mother is a librarian. My aunt is an English teacher. My Uncle is a spelling bee judge. My dad owns a book club. And my whole family is very bookish. B-O-O-K-I-S-H. And if they were all here right now, they would give us all a note, telling us to give up on him. Because Jeff will never be able to spell accountant. They would also give us each a 20:1 odds that he wouldn't be able to spell it."
