Blog 406: Practice

3:30 pm (Cheer Practice)

I was in the middle of practice when I realized that it was almost four and I had to pick up Olivia. I decided to text my mom and ask her because this was the first practice of the season and I couldn't leave early, I mean I just became captain.

*Messages*

Maya- Hey mom I was wondering if you could pick Olivia up from daycare, we are in the middle a really important practice and I don't think I could leave.

Delivered 15 minutes ago

It has been 15 minutes and it was now 3:45 and my mom still hasn't responded. I exit the gym and try to call, but she didn't answer I went to walk back into the gym when I see Josh standing by his locker.

Maya- "Hey Josh what are you still doing here? I thought you had football practice?"

Josh- "Oh hey Maya and nah practice was canceled, something about coaches wife having a baby."

Maya- "Ohh well congrats to them, but why didn't you go home?"

Josh- "I wanted to wait for this beautiful girl to get out of cheer practice."

Maya- "And who would this beautiful girl be?"

Josh- "Well her name is Maya I think you know her."

Maya- "Hmm I feel like I heard that name before, but then again there are a lot of girls on the team."

Shyla- "Maya coach said it's time to run tumbling."

Maya- "Thanks Shyla I'll be there in a sec."

Shyla- "Okay I'll tell her you ran to the bathroom."

She said that as she walked back to the gym and winked at me and Josh, she was so weird but in a weird way I'm happy I met her.

Maya- "Well cheering calls, I'll see you after practice?"

Josh- "Yea you will."

I start to walk away when Josh called my name again.

Josh- "Wait Maya you never answered my question from earlier!"

Maya- "The answers YES!!"

I ran into the gym, I couldn't believe I was going on a date with Josh Matthews. I was thinking about what would happen on the date when a tap on my shoulder pulled back into focus.

Shyla- "So you and Josh Matthews that's cute. I mean the school's star quarterback and school cheer captain, I ship JOSHAYA FOREVER!!"

Maya- "Shhhhh Shyla keep quiet I don't want everyone knowing and I don't even know what we are the date hasn't happened."

Shyla- "Well the date's going to be great, you guys are going to fall in love, become prom queen and king, and live happily ever after.

I was thinking about what Shyla was saying about me and Josh, she was a little extra with the whole living happily ever after thing I mean that only happened on TV shows or movies, but maybe she was right about everything being great on the date. It was after practice and I had to hurry to the daycare to pick up Olivia, I was already late and I didn't want to make it worse. I was putting my stuff in the bag when I heard the girl's locker room door open, I thought I was the last one but I wasn't I looked up and saw Riley and Smackle standing in front of me, all I thought was what the hell could they possibly want.

Maya- "If you don't mind I have somewhere to be, so get the fuck out my way."

Riley- "Where are you off to Maya going to see Josh?"

Maya- "That's really none of you guys' business."

Smackle- "Ohh but I think it is because we don't want people like you in our group."

Maya- "People like me?"

Smackle- "You know a slut."

Maya- "Ohh so I'm the slut when last I heard Riley was the one that slept with the entire basketball team while she was dating Lucas, and you tried to sleep with one the teachers...Oops, my bad."

I grabbed my stuff and brushed passed them and all I heard was Riley say that I was going to pay for what I just said, I didn't really care I walked out of the locker room and saw Josh waiting across the hall. I walked up to him and he put his arm around my waist and this time I left it there and just moved closer to him and wrapped mine around him.

Maya- "So when exactly is this date?"

Josh- "I was thinking Friday night at maybe 8."

I thought about the time, 8 was usually when I read to Olivia and we had our mommy-daughter time. Maybe I could miss one day and my mom wouldn't mind babysitting I mean my mom loved me and I think loved Olivia a little more than me her own daughter.

Josh- "Is there a problem?"

Maya- "No 8 is perfect, but I swear if you try any funny business I will rip your arm off."

All he did was laugh.

Maya- "What's so funny?"

Josh- "Nothing...but deal no funny business I guess...so you want me to walk you home."

I really wanted to say yes but I remembered I had to pick up Olivia.

Maya- "No it's you don't have to, I uh actually have to stop at the store for my mom. This is my stop, I'll see you tomorrow."

I kissed him on the cheek, got off the subway and walked to the daycare. When I got home I talked to my mom about the date I had on Friday, she was a little upset that I didn't tell her sooner seeing that Friday was literally a day away, but in the end, she agreed. I called Missy and told her about the date, when I got off the phone with her I decided to video chat with Matty because I wanted Olivia to see her daddy. We talked for hours it felt like old times. I will admit I really missed Matty he was the first guy I could trust after my dad left and he was always there for me. When I got off the phone with Matty it was 10:00 and Olivia was already sleep and in her pajamas. I ran downstairs and heat up a pizza pocket since I didn't really touch my dinner. I put Olivia in her nursery and when I came back I laid in bed and watched Netflix until my phone started to ring.

*Conversation*

Maya- "Hello?"

Shyla- "Hey Maya, its Shyla."

Maya- "I know Shyla."

Shyla- "HOW!?"

She was so weird but a good kind of weird that made me want to just keep her around.

Maya- "It's this thing called caller ID."

Shyla- "Ohh yea I forgot."

Maya- "Shyla why are you calling me at 10:15 pm?"

Shyla- "Ohh I just wanted to let you know that I heard what you said to Riley and Smackle and I would be careful if I was you they like to get even. And I saw you walking with Josh and you guys are totally #relationship-goals."

Maya- "Well thanks for the heads up, but those two don't scare me trust me I've dealt with worst and as for Josh that's a too be continued."

Shyla- "Okay well goodnight Maya and tell Olivia goodnight as well."

Did I forget to tell that I told Shyla about Olivia...my fault, but yea like I said Shyla is like my only real girlfriend here and I can already tell that I can trust her with that secret.

Maya- "I will night Shyla."

*End of Conversation*

I got off the phone with Shyla and saw that Josh had texted me.

*Messages*

Josh- I know you probably sleep, I just wanted to say goodnight beautiful.🌛💕

Maya- Not sleep but thanks, goodnight Josh.💕💕

I hit sent and went to sleep that night with the biggest smile on my face.
