"Alright children, listen to your nanny and don't make much of a trouble for her, yeah?" Mrs Joseph smiled at her kids. He husband held his arm on the small of her back.
Zack, Jay and Madison squealed happily, jumping go kiss their parents.
"When will you be back?" Madison asked, batting her long eyelashes.
Mr Joseph sighed "Probably tomorrow morning"
They were going to a birthday party. A friend had just turned 50 and there was a whole large area rented just for the party to be held. Many people were invited and there was a lot of alcohol promised.
Mr and Mrs Joseph really needed a break from three children. And this was an actual excuse for getting drunk.
They had already set the rules; recklessness at its best. Whatever happens that night will not effect their marriage in any way and they don't need to feel bad about anything.
They felt young again.
At the party, the music was loud and everything was dark; much like the clubs the Josephs didn't want their son Zack to enter.
During the night, the pair separated and Mrs Joseph could see her husband dancing with a younger woman. And soon enough, there was a young-looking man holding his hands on her waist and smirking deviously.
She liked the attention she was getting and danced with the mysterious man all night.
He slowly dragged her aside and out of the party. They stumbled into the backseat of his black car and one thing led to another; Mrs Joseph cheated on her husband.
And that was definitely the best sex she'll ever get.
She eventually returned to the party, without the man.
At 5am, when the party was over, she fell asleep with her husband in their car. They woke up six hours later and decided to drive home, both frowning from major headaches.
Neither remembered much from the nighttime; Mrs Joseph completely forgot about having sex.
They payed the nanny to stay for the rest of the day, because they couldn't deal with three children and hangovers.
The symptoms started a month later. One doctor's appointment later, the Josephs were sure they were expecting a baby.
Their children were excited too; Zack not so much because he didn't want more younger siblings to have to take care of as the eldest child.
During the pregnancy, Mrs Joseph hid a lot of things from the rest of the world.
She'd throw up blood, the morning sickness was still present throughout the entire pregnancy, her body temperature would rise to very high from time to time, her stomach was in major pain.
But she stayed quiet, too afraid somebody would take her baby away.
When she was less than seven months along, the baby inside her started kicking like crazy. She couldn't take it. Mr Joseph drove his wife to the hospital immediately that night.
And, that night, Tyler was born.
Like any other baby, Tyler's eyes were closed as he cried when he was in the air for the first time. Mrs Joseph asked to hold him before the doctors do any tests.
The baby lied on her chest, shifting to find a perfect position; not able to do much because it was in fact a newborn baby.
She looked at him in awe as he opened his eyes for the first time.
They were a shining crimson.
The sight terrified her. Why does her son have red eyes? All the other children had brown ones, what was wrong now?
A nurse reached out for the baby. Then, Mrs Joseph held Tyler closer to her chest.
"You're not gonna touch my baby!" she started to cry.
Her husband, the hospital staff, the doctors were all in shock. Mrs Joseph had given birth three times already, she was never like this.
They tried and tried, but there was no way for anybody to separate the son from the mother. Mrs Joseph finally asked her husband to go home and he hesitantly obeyed.
The doctors protested, but there was nothing they could do to prevent the family from leaving. Mrs Joseph held Tyler's face to her chest all the way 'till they were home.
The children hopped to the door happily, excited to meet their newborn brother. But they mother ignored them from the first step and just stormed off into her and her husband's bedroom. Her husband sighed worriedly, knowing she must still be in pain from giving birth. Why was she doing all of this, he didn't know.
Madison and Jay started crying, thus he stayed downstairs to calm them down for a while before heading upstairs to the bedroom.
In it, he found his wife standing over Tyler's small bed, watching him. He shut the door loud enough to gain her attention.
"Hey" she said softly.
"Hey" he replied "What's wrong, honey?"
"He's different. Look"
He approached the bed and saw the small baby that is his son lying on his back and rising his hands in the air as he squeaked like any other baby.
Then, he saw the eyes.
"Wha-"
"He's not sick" Mrs Joseph started to cry "He's just special"
Mr Joseph sighed shakily "What are we gonna do with him?"
"The kids can't see him" his wife replied seriously "They're too young to have a red-eyed brother"
"So, you're gonna hide him?"
"We are" she grabbed her husbands hand "And, yes"
"For how long?" Mr Joseph questioned, holding his wife's hand tightly.
"Until Madison is ten"
"For four years he'll be cut out of the entire world?!"
"He'll have his Mom and Dad" Mrs Joseph smiled weakly.
Mr Joseph exhaled nervously "C'mon, love, you need to rest. Go, sleep. I'll put the kids to bed"
They kissed.
"I love you"
"I love you too"
