Chris' eyes got wide, and he hugged me tighter.
'It's okay. We will figure this out. Have you taken a test yet?" He asked me. I shook my head no.
"How about you call Caroline up and ask her to bring one over here." I nodded through my tears, and went to call Caroline.
"Haven?" Caroline said.
"Are you okay?"
"Can you buy me a pregnancy test?" I asked her through the phone.
"Did you tell him? I'm on my way over." She said and the dial tone rung I my ears.
"I just don't see how this could happen." He said."
You are on the pill; we used a condom, what happened?"
Chris and I were lying down on my bed, and he was stroking my hair to try and stop the tears. The door stomped open, and we heard Bryan shuffle upstairs, and knock on my door.
"'Are you decent?" He asked me.
"Yes, come in." I Said. He came into the room and saw me crying.
"Are you okay? What happened? Did someone hurt you?" The tone in his voice was so protective. Chris looked at me.
"You want me to tell him, or you?" I told him I could, and calmed myself down enough so that Bryan could hear over the blubbering.
"I think I'm pregnant." I said and burst into tears again. Bryan's reaction was shocked and it quickly turned into anger directed towards Chris.
"Do we know this for sure?" He asked Chris, exasperated.
"Caroline is on her way over with a test." As if on cue, the doorbell rang. She hugged me tight and led me away from the boys into the bathroom. I did what the instructions said, and left the pee sticks in the liquid for the first fifteen minutes.
As I walked back into the room, both of the boys eyes averted to my stomach. We didn't talk much, for fear of me bursting out into tears again. After the fifteen minutes, we moved it to the other liquid for five. , My stopwatch on my phone buzzed, and I braved myself and went to the bathroom. If there was a negative sign, I was free to go, but if there was a positive sign, I was about to become one wild horse myself.
"Caroline" I called out and she came in.
"Are the results here?" She asked and I nodded. She took the little stick from my hand and widened her eyes at the little pink sign. I fell into her arms sobbing incoherent words. After a couple of minutes of cooling down. I threw the test in the trash and went downstairs to break the news to Bryan and Chris. They heard me come down the stairs and sat up.
"I'm not pregnant." I told them and walked over to Chris, and he sighed with relief.
"Thank-god." Bryan exhaled. I sat down next to Chris, and fell asleep next to him on the sofa.
When I woke up, I woke up to talking, a whistle, and some loud cheering. I was in my bed, with a flannel blanket over me and the clothes from last night. The cheering began again, and I quickly threw on a new pair of jeans and my North Carolina Tar Heels t-shirt. My hair was impossible, so I threw a brush in it and did one long braid to the side. Makeup was minimal, just black mascara and eyeliner, and I sprayed some perfume after putting on deodorant. After deeming myself presentable, I headed downstairs to find the source of the cheering.
Bryan and Chris were all watching a BC and Virginia Tech football game on T.V. It was the last game of the season. They seemed intent on the game, and had the volume turned up to the max-in surround sound. My head pounded and I waited until the commercials to call out.
