To End All Emptiness

Do you ever stop to wonder
The wonder
Of his face
In the light of a sparkler,
The brisk autumn breeze nipping your face
And his slightly worn sweatshirt
Keeping you warm
Under a star's faint gaze?

When winter has come
And my hands are numb
And the nights grow longer still,
Will you still watch the moon rise
By the lights of a football field
Even if we're freezing before the end?

I'll personally buy you an ice cream,
Or two, if you so choose,
Just to see your dashing grin
Even if for a second or two.
I want to show you the city lights,
The flowers, the fountains, the greatest heights,
For none compare to the greatest sight
Of your beautiful bright smile.

And it's not every day
That we stray so far away
But in my heart I carry you
Even though you may not want me to.
And it pains me to know
I can't let my words show.
I don't know if you'd laugh or withdraw
If you discovered my hidden warmth.

So why don't we retreat from the stress
Modern society ails us with?
Stare at our reflections
In the ripples of the calm river?
Roll down hills
In the pinnacle of our youth?

Breathe in the air
That's only fresh once.
Exhale the grandeur
Of your sparsely spoken words.
Feel the pulse of life,
Let its rhythm coarse through you.
Free yourself from weights and burdens
And open your eyes to see me.
