Dreaded Days

Waves of doubt and sorrow seas;
Throwing up and prayerful pleas.
Oceans of laughter, dry as dead grass,
For not long can blissful ignorance last.

I had such intricate hopes
Strewn together in my head;
What I thought was a rope
Was really just a thread.

I gave you my word but you withheld yours,
Drowning me in silence through your bolted-shut doors.
I gave you my love, I gave you my all,
But into false hope's snares I always fall.

Shroud me in solitude,
Fade my skies to grey.
How could such a genuine feeling
Not flow both ways?

Tie my tongue, keep me aloof.
Use my heart as painful proof.
Take my smile, take my light,
For nothing can resolve my plight.
