Choking on Anemone

How could I have been so foolish,
So absorbed in my personal predicaments,
To think that only I
Could be the apple of his eye?

The world seemed to fall into my grasp
But I saw him searching for another lass.
I thought because I felt genuinely,
He'd have to share these feelings with me.

Mirror, mirror, why can't you tell
If he thinks I'm the fairest as well?
If I have beauty, if I have grace,
Why won't he smile when he sees my face?

Fallen branches and dried leaves;
Relieve me of my favorite theif.
Golds to greys and sugar to salt;
If this is love, then make it stop.
