I yawned quietly as I walked inside the lounge and found no one there. That's weird. I quickly changed into scrubs and drank coffee. As I was about to leave, Dr. Hunt walked in.
"Hey." He said to me as he made coffee for himself.
"Morning." I said as I washed my mug.
"Where is everybody?" I asked him confused.
"They have a board meeting going on right now." He stated as he waited for the mug to fill up.
"So that means they all need to be there?" I askes.
"Well, most of them are board members and own this hospital." He explained.
I raised an eyebrow.
"I did not know that." I said hanging my mug.
"Yup. This hospital is just full of surprises." He said with a sort of angry tone.
"Is everything okay?" I asked him.
He nodded and picked up his coffee mug.
"It doesn't seem like it." I said to him.
He sighed.
"I've just been having some problems at home with Amelia." He said. I pursed my lips and nodded.
"Well, I'm sure whatever is, you guys will get through it." I said patting his shoulder.
"Yea well, me too." He said.
"I'll see you later." I said leaving the room.
Today is Friday which means it's the last day I have Wilson on my service.
Speaking of which, here she comes.
"Morning Dr. Gates. I have already checked on Mr. Davis and he is doing fine." Wilson said to me.
"Good Morning to you too Wilson. That's great news." I said to her as she nodded.
"I have absolutely nothing today so I guess you can go wander around while I try to get something." I said to her. She shrugged and nodded as I walked away.
Just as I made my way to another hallway I bumped into Jackson.
"Hey." I said with a smile.
"Hi." He said back licking his lips.
"Wanna hang, I have nothing scheduled anytime soon?" He asked me.
I nodded and he took me to an empty conference room. He pulled the shades down and walked closer to me.
"I've been meaning to do this.." He said as he pulled me close and kissed me. I mentally smiled at him and wrapped my arms around his neck. After a couple seconds we pulled away.
"I really like you Mel." He said to me as his eyes pierced through my soul.
"And as much as I didn't want to like you back.....I do alot." I said back to him.
"Now, why wouldn't you want to like me?" He stated with a slight smirk as he pushed a strand of my hair behind my ear.
"Maybe because I didn't want to get involved with someone I work with." I said as I put my hands on his chest.
"Well, it's to late for that now." He said. I nodded as I bit my lip.
"I know it's too soon or whatever, but I want to be with you." He said. I raised my eyebrows in surprisement.
"I just want to have the security that you're mine. It drives me crazy when other men look at you and hit on you. I want to be the only man that does that." He said standing even closer to me.
My breathing hitched as I thought about was I was going to do. Should I really risk it and start something with him? Or should I just let it play on like some kind of hook up or something.
But looking at his face I knew that he wasn't just going to be a simple hook up.
I looked up at him.
"Okay. I'll be with you." I answered.
He gave me a smile before kissing me again. This time it was hotter and deeper. He lifted me up on the table as his hands were set on my waist. He set small kissed on my neck as I smiled at him.
"Let's go out somewhere tonight." He said.
"Where to?" I asked.
"Dinner? We could maybe go out to a resturant or back to your place and I could make you something." He advised.
"Dinner sounds nice, and I don't really feel like going out so my place is perfect." I said to him.
"Alright, so I'll see you later." He said with a small smile.
I nodded.
"Oh and let's keep this to ourselves for now." I said to him.
He nodded.
"Yea ofcourse." He answered. I gave him a smile and kissed him one last time before he set me down off the desk.
"I should get going." I said heading for the door.
He nodded and followed me until we got out of the room and went our seperate ways.
I couldn't help but smile to myself as I roamed through the hallways. My phone started buzzing.
It was a page for an incoming trauma. I quickly ran to the ER and put my put my disposable gown on as Wilson arrived and put one on herself. She tied mine as I tied hers and we put some gloves on as we waited by the ambulance entrance.
The pulled in an EMTs poured out of the back as they brought the patient out.
"7 year old girl, Ana Turner...possible appendicitis." The EMT said as we pushed her into the ER and to Trauma room 1.
"I'm scared." The girl said as she looked around the room full of strangers.
"Hi Ana, My name is Dr.Gates. I'm your doctor today and I'm going to make sure you get all fixed up okay, so you don't have to be scared." I said as I held her hand with a small smile. She nodded and let us put an IV into her.
"DeLuca get me an ultrasound now." I yelled to an intern. Hopefully this girl's appendix hasn't ruptured. He pushed the machine next to me.
"Okay Ana this is going to feel a little cold okay." I said to her as I squished out the jelly onto her stomach. She flinched a little but she was okay.
Her appendix was extremely enflamed and we needed to get this out of her now or it could burst any minute.
"Wilson book an OR, and someone get her parents to sign consent papers for surgery." I said. Wilson went and an intern went to go the papers done.
"Let's get her prepped for surgery." I said as we started rolling her out of the room.
"Dr. Gates what's going on?" She asked me in pain.
"Honey, we have to take out what's causing you so much pain. After that you'll feel so much better." I said to her as I pushed her into the elevator.
"You promise?" She asked me holding up her pinky. I nodded and interlocked my pinky with hers.
The interns started prepping her for surgery as I went to scrub in. I took the disposable gown off me and threw it out along with the gloves. I quickly tied my hair up and tied my cap on. I then tied the facial mask around my head and put on shoe covers. Wilson walked through the door and repeated my steps. I started washing my hands.
"That girl's really lucky they brought her in on time." I said to Wilson. She nodded.
"Yea, her parents are worried sick right now." She told me. I turned the water off and grabbed a towel to cover my hands. I walked in the OR as the nurses gowned me and slid gloves on my hands.
"Hope everyone's been having a fine morning, now let's make it better by taking this girl's appendix out." I said with a hint of happiness since no one could see my smile through the mask. Everyone chuckled and we started the surgery.
*Mid Way through the procedure*
"Okay Wilson, what's next?" I asked her.
"You're going to carefully hold the appendix with Babcock's foreceps." She said. I nodded.
"And then what?" I trailed on.
"Disect a window in the mesoappendix, and place 2 artery clips across the appendicular vessels."
"Well answered, now do it." I said stepping away so she could take my spot.
She eagerly moved over as I observed her every move.
A couple of steps later and the appendix was out and away. Wilson finished off the surgery well.
"Thank you everybody." I said as I walked out of the OR and took of the surgical stuff. Wilson walked inside after she was done closing.
"You did really good in there." I said to her as I washed my hands.
"Thank you. I've had alot of fun this week with you and I'm looking forward to being on your service more often." She said. I smiled and nodded at her.
"And I'll be looking foward to having you on my service again as well." I said back with a smile as I dried my hands.
"I'm going to go inform the parents, you coming?" I asked her. She nodded. We both walked out to the waiting area.
"Family members of Ana Turner?" I asked. A pair of parents got up and walked to us quickly.
"We're her parents how is she?" The mom asked worriedly.
"I'm Dr. Gates, This Is Dr. Wilson. Dr. Wilson please share the news." I said to her.
"Ana is fine. The procedure went well and she is now getting moved to the lICU." Dr. Wilson explain.
Both parents smiled and hugged each other in relief.
"Can we see her?" The dad asked.
"Once she's settled in her room. I'll let a nurse now and she will tell you what it is." I said to them. They nodded.
"Thank You, both of you." They said. We nodded and gave them a smile. We walked back to the surgical area and I took my cap of and let my hair down.
I went to the cafeteria and had a quick lunch with Meredith and Arizona as we talked about our recent surgeries.
*Hours later and her shift is over*
I finally got to change out of these scrubs and back to my regular clothes.
I threw my scrubs away and Jackson came in.
He spotted me and gave me a small smile.
"Hey beautiful." He said as he took his scrub top off.
"Already with the cheesy comments?" I said with a smile.
He bit his lip and nodded. I turned around and grabbed my phone from my bag and by the time I turned around Avery was fully dressed and ready to leave.
"Speedy much?" I said laughing. He playfully rolled his eyes.
"C'mon let's get out of here." He said motioning his head towards the door. We went on the elevator and immediately took his phone out.
"Okay, I'm going to let April know that I' m going out and might not be home tonight." He said typing away on his phone.
"Who says you won't be home tonight?" I asked with a clueless face.
"We'll see tonight baby, don't fuss." He said. I rolled my eyes.
"Oh since now we're dating, I can do this whenever I want." He said as he leaned in to kiss me. He pushed me back towards the wall and put one hand next to me. The elevator door dinged meaning it was about to open so we pulled away.
Wilson was getting on as we were getting out.
"Goodnight Dr.Gates and Dr. Avery." She said with a smile. I waved at her and walked to my car as Jackson walked to his. He was going to follow me back to my place.
I got into my car and put my bag in the passenger seat.
Well, tonight should be fun.
