The next day Jackson and I walked into the lounge hand in hand.
"Morning." I said to everyone that was there. I let go of Jackson's hand and put my stuff down as I also went to say hello to the girls.
"Hey guys." I said finding Amelia, Meredith, Arizona, and Maggie. April wasn't here yet.
"Woah so you and Jackson?" Maggie asked me with wide eyes. I nodded as I bit my lip.
"When did that happen?!" Meredith asked.
"Lastnight." I said.
"I always knew you too had something going on." Amelia said to me. I smiled.
"Yea..I just hope this doesn't create any problems with anyone you know." I said as I grabbed a new pair of scrubs. They nodded in understandment.
"As long as you're both happy." Arizona said.
"Crap Maggie we have to get going, we have to go lrel Mrs.Collins for surgery." Meredith said to Maggie. Maggie's eyes nodded and they left.
Then Arizona and Alex got paged so they left. I swear it's like theres a specific time in the morning where everyone gets pulled out of the room.
"So how are things with Owen?"  I asked Amelia.
She gave me a small smile.
"Well, after what you said to us lastnight we talked and..I'm moving back in." She said. I smiled and hugged her.
"I'm so glad. You too are great together." I said to her.
"I gotta get changed, I'll talk to you later." I said to Amelia as she nodded and I walked to the bathroom. I then quickly changed and walked into an empty room with only a shirtless Jackson.
"I like the view." I said putting my coat on. He looked up at me and chuckled. He then slipped his shirt and coat on. I grabbed my stethoscope and hung it around my neck.
I slipped my phone into my pocket and pinned my badge onto my coat.
"I'll see you around babe." He said walking closer to me. We leaned in and kissed. The door opened abrupty interrupting our kiss and we pulled away.
"Oh- I'm sorry." April said looking at us with wide eyes. She put her bag down and ran into the bathroom.
I looked at Jackson with furrowed eyebrows.
"Do you-" I started but he interrupted me.
"I'll talk to her okay." He said. I nodded and he kissed my forehead. I left the room and carried on with my morning. I really hope things don't get messy.
I haven't seen Ryan since last night, so I decided to go check on him.
I walked into his room and saw his mom sitting next to him as they spoke.
Ryan's attention turned towards me as his mom finally noticed me.
"Melissa, is that you?" She asked with a smile as she got up. I nodded.
"Hi Mrs. Jennings." I said to her. She gave me a hug.
"You look stunning dear." She said pulling away. I smiled at her.
"So do you. How are you?" I asked her.
"Better now that I know my baby is okay." She said referring to Ryan.
He rolled his eyes and whined "mom". I chuckled at them.
"Where's Mr. Jennings?" I asked.
"He went back to the hotel to shower." Mrs Jennings answered. I nodded.
"I'm going to get something to eat, I'll be back." She said before leaving the room.
"Soo, how are you feeling?" I asked him.
"Better." He said definitely regaining his normal voice.
"Hey I need to ask you something?" He said signaling me to come closer.
I did as told and waited for him to speak.
"Is Dr. Pierce single?" He asked. I chuckled at him already looking for a girl to hit on even hours after he almost nearly died.
"Yes, yes she is." I said nodding.
"But, she's looking for something serious. And you live in NY.." I said to him.
"Well what if I didn't anymore..." He trailed off.
My eyes widened.
"I really like it here, well besides the fact I almost died." He said.
I cracked a smile.
"Are you trying to follow me?" I said with sass.
"Yes, I am." He said with a straight face. A couple seconds we bursted out
laughing.
"No but seriously I like it here and I really am considering staying here." He said licking his lips.
"Well, if that's what you want and think is going to be the best, I'm all for it." I said with a smile.
"Oh and, I'll send you Maggie's number." I said getting up and walking to the door.
"Love you Gates!" He yelled as I walked out of the room. I smiled as I shook my head and sent him her number before I had a chance to forget. I was then walking down the hallway when I ran into Meredith.
"Hey." She said to me as we walked.
"Hi, I really need to blab to someone right now." I said to Meredith stopping. "I have a whippel right now, want to scrub in?" She asked. I nodded. We went inside the OR and got ready. After we washed our hands and went inside the ER we got gowned and were ready to work.
Meredith and I started operating.
"Okay spill." She said as she cut through the scarper's fascia.
"Well after everyone left, I was going to and Jackson kissed me and April walked in." I said holding a clamp. Her eyes widened.
"Yikes, what happened after that." She said.
"I left because Jackson said he would talk to her."
"I'm sure April's just taking it by surprise. I mean you are Jackson's first serious girlfriend ever since their divorce."
"Yea....Jackson and I dated in secret before." I said bitting my lip which couldn't be seen through my mask.
"Wait What?!" She said looking up at me.
"Yea, and then we broke up like two months ago because he still had some feelings for April while he was dating me."
Meredith chuckled.
"Wow, that's an interesting mess." She said with a chuckle.
I rolled my eyes.
"See! That's why I'm worried. What if April makes him break up with me using Harriet as a threat." I said worriedly.
"I know April, and she would never do that. Just give her some time and talk to her." Meredith said. I nodded.
"So what did you need to talk about?" I asked her.
"Riggs and I slept together...a couple of times." She said. My eyes widened as I chuckled.
"Riggs really? I can totally see it. What's the problem in that?" I asked confused.
"Maggie's into him. She told me last night. She wants me to talk to him about her and you know hook them up."
My eyes lit up.
"Don't I think I can solve that problem for you. My friend Ryan is into her and I gave him her number."
"Wait, Jennings? Oh he's cute." Meredith said.
"Been there, done that." I said with a chuckle.
"Damn Mel." Mer said before a nurse walked in.
"Dr. Gates we need you in the ER. Multiple incoming trauma's. Dr. Hunt and Dr. Kepner went to the field where the accident happened." The nurse said.
I nodded and looked at Meredith.
"Duty calls." I said stepping away from the table and going to scrub out.
I quickly took my gowns off and scrubbed out. I ran to the ER where multiple doctors were ready to go.
Dr. Edwards was on my service so she was waiting for me.
"Hunt and Kepner are out so that means you're in charge. This is your ER now." She said handing me a disposable gown.
I nodded and took a deep breath. I was reading off the tablet there are about 22 victims.
"Alright everyone, Dr. Hunt and Dr. Kepner are out in the field trying to help out and make our lives easier here. We need all hands on deck so make sure to have your residents and interns here. What we are going to do when the patients start arriving is we are going to color code them.Green means it is not serious at all and can wait. Yellow means it is somewhat serious but can be held off for a little. And lastly red, meaning immediate attemtiom. Use these colors wisely. Now, I'm going to need an intern....Dr. Cross, you will be photographing each and every patient that comes in from this accient. The waiting rooms will be flooded with relatives so don't mix up the names on the pictures. Dr. Warren you will be controlling the waiting room. As Dr. Cross brings in the pictures you will clip them onto a board and record every patient claimed. I need some nurses to check and make sure all the trauma rooms are cleared and that we have at least 15 empty beds." I said as Edwards gave out the color pads to everything.
"Incoming 1 minute." A nurse yelled out.
"Alright let's get moving people!" I said as everyone moved. I ran out with Edwards following. The ambulance pulled up out came the EMT's.
"Jane Doe, fractured neck, rigid abdomen..most likely some free fluid in there...and head contusion. Has been unresponsive since we picked her up from the field. Oh and Dr. Hunt says we have about 5 red codes." The EMT said. I nodded as we pushed her into Trauma room 1.
Hopefully my first time running this ER goes well.
