*1 Week Later*
"Hey Mel." Arizona said walking next to me. I was checking a patients lab on a tablet.
"Hey Arizona." I said to her.
"What are you wearing for the gala tonight?" She asked. I raised an eyebrow.
"What gala?" I asked.
"The fundraiser gala for the hospital. Everyone has to go." She said. I groaned.
"You know gala's aren't really my thing." I said with a frown. She chuckled.
"Oh please, you look amazing in dresses." She said to me. I rolled my eyes playfully.
Arizona checked her watch as her eyes widened.
"Crap, I have a consult. Got to go." She said running off. Well, now I have to go find a dress for later.
*Skipping to the gala*"Mel! You made it, and you look amazing." Arizona said walking up to me as I entered. She was wearing a long strappless black dress with white flowers imprinted. I smiled at her.
"Thank you, you look really good too." I said giving her a hug. We walked to the others. I have yet to see Jackson today, he's probably really busy since he does own most of this hospital.
"Hey Mel, you look great!" Mer said giving me a drink. I smiled at her.
"Thanks you too, God I really need this. I hate big fancy parties." I said taking a sip from my cup. She smiled and nodded.
"Me too." She said.
Amelia approached us and we started talking.
"Oh look here comes April." Mer said pointing at the door. She walked in a beige long dress.
"Hey guys, how's it going so far?" She asked.
"Nothing's started yet." Amelia answered referring to the auction. We all went to grab some appetizers and sat down at a table.
My phone dinged.
I checked it and it was a text from Jackson.
"Where are you and the rest?" it said. I texted back telling him were we were. Seconds later he popped up out of no where.
"Oh look, it's the Avery himself!" Amelia said taunting him. He rolled his eyes playfully as we chuckled.
"Hey guys." He said greeting all of us. His eyes met mine and I gave him a small smile.
"Hey is your mom here?" Mer asked him. He shook his head.
"No she couldn't make it." He explained.
April raised her eyebrow.
"Really? Catherine never misses anything." She said confused. Jackson chuckled.
"Exactly what I said." He said smiling at her. They started their own little conversation as Amelia and Meredith turned to me.
"Those two have a really good relationship for being divorced and havinng a kid." Meredith said sipping her wine. Amelia nodded.
"Definitely wouldn't be surprised if they got back together." She said. Ouch, that hurt.
I swallowed hard and put a fake smile on my face nodding yes.
"Hey Mel you have any special someone in your life yet?" Amelia asked me. Maybe...
"Nope, not yet." I said with a fixed smile. Mer and Amelia laughed.
"Honey enjoy it for now." They both said. I rolled my eyes and laughed with them. The night went on and Amelia and Meredith's words stuck with me all night. Of course the thought of Jackson and April crossed my mind, but I never really paid much attention to it until now.
Tonight has been really boring. I haven't talked to Jackson at all. He's been talking to other people with April right next to him. All I hear is April and Jackson this and that. I'm just tired of it and it makes me angry that I can't say that I'm dating Jackson. I decided to stop drinking before doing something. I didn't want to blame the alcohol for it. I want to make sure it's all on me. I saw Jackson standing by the door typing away on his phone. I pulled him outside into the hallway where there was no one.
He looked surprised but his face softened when he saw me.
"Hey, you look amazing." He said finally taking a good look at me. I gave him a small smile.
I wasted no time and smashed my lips against his. I definitely caught him by surprise because he didn't kiss me back.
I pulled away confused.
"Sorry, I'm just not feeling it tonight." He said. I laughed and shook my head.
"You're kidding me? You haven't taken your eyes off her all night just like she hasn't left your side. And now all of sudden your not feeling it with me?" I said frustrated. His eyebrows furrowed.
"What are you talking about Mel?!" He asked. I sighed.
"You and April Jackson!" I said. He shook his head.
"I can't deal with this right now." He said about to turn around and go back inside.
I grabbed his arm and he turned around.
"Just answer this question." I said more calm. He pursed his lips waiting for me speak.
"Are you sitll in love with her?" I said. I saw a look of guilt in his eyes as he stayed quiet. I felt the heat to my cheeks rising.
"Okay. Well you won't have to deal with "this" anymore." I said making air quotations as I pointed to myself.
"We're done, I hope you're happy with her."I said as tears fell down my eyes and I walked away. As I approached the exit doors of the hospital I slowed down and let the tears fall down.
Deep down I was hoping, better yet thought he would come after me and not let me go....but I guess I was wrong. I turned around and wiped my face. I wasn't going to go home. I went to the bathroom and quickly fixed my makeup. I was going to go back in there and finish the night. I wasn't going back for him, I was only going back because I needed to be there for the auction. I'm doing this for the hospital and make shre I keep doing the thing I love most : surgery. I wasn't going to let Jackson in the way of that. I took a deep breath and walked in.
"Hey, you disappeared?" Arizona said as I sat down at our table. I shook my head.
"Bathroom." I explained and she nodded.
"The auction is starting." Amelia said to us as we looked up. Jackson and Bailey were standing up with a podeum as the crowd quieted down.
"The silent auction will now begin, I hope everyone is having a good time." Dr. Bailey said.
"Yes, thank you to everyone who came and is showing support. We really appreciate it." He said with a smile as everyone clapped. The night went on and I burried my pain in alcohol. But by the time this gala was over I was way too drunk. I couldn't walk or really just make sense of what anyone was saying.
"Okay Mel, I think it's time to get you home." Arizona said trying to get me up.
I heard Jackson's voice.
"I got her Arizona, go home you must be tired." He said to her.
"Are you sure?" She asked. He nodded. Like I said, I wasn't really paying attention to much around me, but when I felt hands trying to get ahold of me... I knew it was him. I quickly turned around and pushed him off me.
"Don't touch me Jacksonn." I slurred. Luckily no one was around anymore.
"C'mon Mel, don't do this now." He said.
"Do what? You stop it Jackson." I said trying to walk away from him. I almost tripped on my dress when Jackson quickly held me.
"Just let me get you home please." He whispered. I puffed and let him. It was the best thing to do, since I can't even walk on my own. We walked out to his car and he saf me in the passenger seat. He then ran around the car and got inside the drivers seat. We took off driving away and to my house. I felt sick and my head was already killing me. We arrived at my house and he got me out of the car. We started walking but I tripped again and almost fell. So, Jackson picked me up bridal style as I wrapped my arms around his neck. He managed to unlock my door and we walked inside. He closed the door and walked upstairs to my bedroom. He set me down on the bed as I was already dozing off.
It was silent for a couple of minutes.
"I'm Sorry." He whispered as he kissed my forehead. He probably thought I was sleeping, but I'm not mad, it was probably better that way. He then left, and I was alone in my drunk misery. Once again, what I get for involving myself with a colleague.
