Wolf Fur wasn't sure what had called him to the deepness of the pines. It seemed as if something was yearning him to wander and linger there, away from cats chattering. Evidence of prey given by the scent was there. He felt as if the pine woods were a place where a cat could walk endlessly and aimlessly. Which was what he was doing to be exact. Some urge to be away from camp, away from irrelevant conversations all at once, had brought him here. Breathing in the scent of needles. "Our group's been here for only a short time and yet, it feels so at home." He meowed. His white paws crunched against a few needles. At first nothing stirred. He saw a flash of gray race past him. Wolf Fur stopped still, his gaze moving to his side, then his other side, listening with both ears. It was hiding from him. Whatever it was, it knew better than to do that. Wolf Fur knew it was a mouse. Getting in a hunting position, knowing the tiny furred creature was unaware of his hungry presence. With a spring, he leaped for it. The mouse tried to dive away, but Wolf Fur scooped it up with his claws and bit into it. He tasted blood. "Food." He meowed with satisfaction and walked out if the set of pines. Another catch the group would surely appreciate. He walked into the camp.
"Nice mouse there son." Weasel Spot mewed. His father's tone had become bleak lately. Misty Tail's death still haunted his mind Wolf Fur guessed. He put it on prey heap. He remembered that Grass Shadow and Viper Strike brought back the strange she-cat named Ella yesterday after hunting some frogs. "Why did those two go across the lake?" Wolf Fur mewed to himself.
"Oh calm down!" Viper Strike's mew almost made him jump and scramble around on his paws. "Maybe I just like the part of the forest across he lake." She purred defensively. Wolf Fur frowned. "But you spend a lot of time with Grass Shadow, Ella, Deer Snout, and Gray Sky hunting frogs. Why don't I get to come?" He asked.
"I'm sorry. Tell you what, I can show you how to catch a frog, soon as you show me how to catch a mouse." She mewed seeing her brother's eyes brighten.
"Okay! Let's go!" He purred and walked out of the camp. He heard his sister's paws following after him. The two headed for the lake to cross to the other side of the forest.

"Isn't it good that we don't have to send so many cats hunting? Too many foxes and stoats and wolves." Light Mist uttered to Bright Wind who was flicking her tail lazily and staring around. "I truly believed the wolves had left us alone. But it's clear in my age that wherever we go, something you don't want on your tail follows you. You'll know that when you're as old as me." She mrowed.
"I have plenty of time before then." The pale gray she-cat meowed as she began washing her tail.
Wolf Fur was curled up in his nest and a tight ball, but his eyes were open.
"Can't sleep either?" Weasel Spot sank down in a nest beside him. "I know it's been hard since your mother. Believe me, it's only been a half-moon and I'm still just as torn in two as you are when she first left us all. But we all must let life go on, for your mother's sake.." He mewed and padded away after touching his nose to both his and Viper Strike's ears and left them to go to sleep in a den with the rest of the group next to theirs.
Why did he say that? He missed mom the most! Something about he conversation made Wolf Fur's black pelt tingle in a wrong place. He rested his head on his paws and stared up into the stars, wondering which one was his mother and his uncle, Stone Storm. He narrowed his eyes before closing them.
